Tesco Opening Hours

It's to protect small shops that do a large % of their business on a sunday afternoon when the big shops are closed. Not many people would choose to buy a tiny jar of coffee for £3 but will happily do it when they run out on a sunday afternoon etc.

Meh, that happens to be a bonus or secondary reason given, but probably isn't true.

Being that there are lots of Tesco Metros about what stops somebody from popping into the car and avoiding the little shop?

I've had this conversation with shop keepers before and business at all times is hit with nearby supermarkets. Them being closed on Sunday doesn't cause a sudden influx.

The country really needs to get with the times.

Same here where I live, but with an ASDA store instead. Really winds me up when you see the truly massive 24/7 sign on the side of it and its shut at 10:10 on a saturday night lol
 
The Stratford on Avon store I work at opens 6am monday morning, closes saturday at midnight, then opens 10-4 on Sunday, so as close to 24 hour as you can get. I assume they've done research and seen that nobody does shopping mega early on monday mornings?

As for the sunday opening hours, I assume a lot of it depends on nearby stores. If every other shop nearby is open 11-5 then it would be silly to open 10-4 since people wouldn't arrive until 11 when the other shops open anyway. (People wouldn't want to do their shopping first because they would then be leaving chilled products in their car for an hour or so).
 
Don't get the major fuss tbh, I doubt many people really care whether the shop is open at 4 in the morning.

I'd been up for about 3 hours by then so figured I'd go to the shops.
I don't get how people can stay in bed until that time - I'm up at pretty much the same time I would get up in the week unless I have a stinking hangover when I may stay in bed until 10 or so.

We should also close all power stations, hospitals, police stations, fire stations etc on a Sunday so no one has to work.

What, wait until Monday when I'm generally consumed by work from 6am until 8pm ?

Saturday/Sunday are the prime days that I'd generally do anything shopping related, so I'd prefer more conveniance on those days, and less during the week.

I hate it how bank branches have reduced opening hours at the weekend, I can never get to a bank during the week :mad:
 
So some people can have a day off and be with their families? Shocking I know.

24/7 (proper style) in Scotland is great except for the retarded alcohol trading laws. 10AM - 10PM every day of the week.

Same... I've been meaning to open a joint account with the girl for rent and bills for months and haven't got round to it... because the bank is only open til ~14:00 and is always rammed... they have less staff, over book appointments and you would have to queue for hours. Not worth it.
