We have a decent choice of supermarkets in the vicinity, all the usuals, ALDI, ASDA, M&S Food, Morrisons, Sainsburys, Tesco and Waitrose.
Of these I rank Tesco as the worst for customer experience and food options.

Our local Tesco used to be decent, nowadays it is poor, empty shelves not been stacked, limited range of products and staff going through the motions as an inconvenience to their mobile phone social media urgent matters.
Having visited other Tesco's they do not seem so bad as our local one so I have no hesitation in nominating it as the worst of our local supermarkets.

Tesco - Purley

Yeah Tesco young staff are constantly on their phones and not the ones they use 'the app' for to check stock, this is an excuse if you catch them at it but instagram/snapchat isn't for checking stock levels... It's mad how they're allowed to do this on camera, I worked there when i was young and they'd take a tiny slit of paper off the checkout screen I'd put on there to block the clock...
If we hadn't got any customers they'd take us off the tills to stack shelves and vice versa if working on the shop floor we'd get put on tills. Which is fair enough as you're being paid to work...
CO-OP also are always on their phones even as you're walking upto the counter and talk over customers to their mates that come in!

Never seen someone at Aldi/Lidl on their phones, ever.

Our local Tesco isn't too bad, as it's in a rural area, good car park, usually not too busy.

Although I've noticed that they have reduced staff a lot so tills can get busy.

I think Tesco is expensive and fresh produce particularly meat and fish (if they even have any) is really poor compared to other supermarkets.

BIt it's a fair drive to the nearest Lidl/Aldi so when you factor in time and fuel cost it isn't worth it.

if I had a local Aldi/Lidl I'd shop there say 3 times and then 1 time at Tesco's in a rotation like that.

Our local Tescos is fairly decent to be fair. Our local Morisons is god awful. Sainsburys seems to be our supermarket of choice even if we have to go a bit out of the way for it.

I usually go when most people are getting ready to go to bed so they are all the same to me lol. Especially I use self service so never interact with the staff unless i get the random checks on my basket.

But of them all, which are all within a mile of each other, I prefer Sainsbury’s the most.

If someone in Aldi was on their phone they'd risk being lynched by the other people having to pick up their jobs, the bigger places like Tesco have so many staff no one even notices.
Not when it's 1 person on self serve/card only machines who's supposed to be looking for the machines flashing amber/red and ignoring it despite sat infront of a screen that tells them any faults, assisting customers, like they're being paid to do...

But instead they just sit there on snapchat, I've seen the same place have 3 people there all talking whilst 2 are on their phones showing each other stuff, whilst everyone else is looking around, one of those lads even wears ipods which you can spot a mile off being white...

The customer notices but like I said the staff won't give a monkeys, unlike somewhere like Aldi/Lidl who run so lean the other staff have to care and pick up the slack

Marks and Spencers is the best.
They only seem to employ older people who just do their job without distractions.

Also all the veg and fruit is comparable prices yet much better quality than Morrsons and tesco...

Tesco seems the worst for fresh veg, I'd have carrots not even last 2 days before they went mouldy....

carrots from M&S seem to last a whole week fine...

I don't really use any supermarkets apart from M&S, Morrisons and the odd small tesco store visit.

The only thing good about Tesco smaller stores is the opening hours 6am > midnight

I've not been an asda for years but they always attracted the biggest chavs and radgies

When the stores for Tesco etc are so dysfunctional and the staff so lazy it makes you wonder what goes on in the warehouse part of the store.... I bet refrigerated products just sit their for hours etc at room temp....

ours is terrible and like most tescos they only get in what makes a profit. been going down hill for years. other supermarkets are far better now with better ranges. many people just go tesco as its their local . not because its better than the rest.

Local one is fairly small so a lot of the time the stuff I like disappears...I guess they only have shelf space for a certain amount of products, its annoying though. We use the Clubcard and also pay for it using the Tesco credit card for points.

Expensive and tired looking with counters like fresh fish (yeah I know) deli and meat removed, which isn't that bad tbh and they take no notice of other local, cheaper and better quality stores.

I only go in now for the MILF's and panko breadcrumbs.

Tesco is probably the worst for single use plastics and general quality of fresh produce, IMO.
I only go there for the odd item now and then because there's a massive one down the road from where I work.

Dragged my feet off to the local Tesco yesterday for a few bananas and some cat food.
Waste of time, banana shelves unstocked and the remaining ones were poor quality. Off along to the pet food area, same old, same old, empty shelves for the stuff I wanted.

Left empty handed, I should have known better.

My regular is ******* awful.

My routine is to drop the kids at swimming 7:25, 8 minute drive to Aldi, spend approx £50-£60, then get the rest in the big Tesco over the road, 8 minute drive back to pick the kids up at 8:35.

About a year ago, Tesco closed all the checkouts at 8pm, and it takes ******* forever to self scan a trolley load. Especially when you invariably need to wait for assistance 2-4 times. And they have one member of staff covering 18 checkouts. I started buying more from Aldi to save the hassle.

Now, Aldi have also brought in self-scan. Aldi! Where the single best bit of shopping there used to be the fantastic speedy checkout staff!

Due to the tight time restraints, I simply have to buy less stuff now and pick up extra from Sainsburys on my drive home from work.

******* hate self-checkout for trolleys

I despise self-service checkouts; they are fine for those buying a few items (Milk, Bread etc.) - they should be limited. Now, they are taking over stores, so will the cost cutting in staff wages will counter stolen items? I'm sure people with big brains have done the math but I'm not convinced as it's a shop lifters paradise now.

A couple of instances of wandering up to a machine, Waitrose and Aldi (showing the green light) people are basically scanning items but when it comes to paying - simply walk off. Seems a simple exploit with no last line of defence other than an on the ball shop assistant.

Booths binned them recently and curious to know if others - Waitrose / M&S, will follow suit.

This is why I prefer shopping locally, butchers, farms shops, fish man (sometimes fish women) comes around once a week. She normally visit the farm shop twice a week.

Random locals for honey, jam, eggs etc and you then build up a relationship with them.

Far better, fruit and veg is in a completely different league when bought locally rather than shipped over 3 weeks. Although it does become annoying this time of year because you can’t strawberries for loving or money.

But tesco employs direct decedents of the T-Rex (similar arm reach on the tills) meaning self service is a win win in those stores, OH and I don't have to engage with Mary about the ******* weather, how expensive everything is now and what am I doing with that large cucumber, KY Jelly and a calendar of Carol Verdabotox.

You will pay for it though. Personally I don't mind spending a bit extra for better products but id imagine most Tesco shoppers wouldn't accept that increase.

Building up a relationship is worth it if you get good prices and free stuff.
