Hey everyone, I've been following electric cars and Tesla for years now, I currently have a BMW X1 and I'm hoping my next car in 2021 will be a Tesla Model Y once my lease finishes. I'm really excited about this car and wondered what you guys thought about the new Tesla?

The specs and price of the car will be £29,000, 230 miles and 0-60 in 5.9 seconds for the standard range model.

The best picture I can find of the car so far is here:

Is anybody else planning on getting a Tesla model Y? Anyone else excited to go electric?

I wish it had Falcon Wing Doors, but I guess they didn't use them due to cost cutting but I was really hoping they would have them because I personally think they looked cool and futuristic! :)

£2,900? Bargain.

Assuming you meant £29,000 that a straight conversion from $39k which will never happen. The current Model 3 is $35k in the US and over £40,000 when bought here. The new one is likely to be around £45k, and another £10k if you want the performance pack.

There a lot of far better cars you have to say no to before you buy one of these.

Oh oh more thing I forgot to mention, because it's been built on the same platform as the model 3, it shares many of it's design features for the interior but I would have really like the speed dials above the steering wheel but instead it looks like they're only giving us the option of seeing your speed on the tablet in the middle of the dash. But other then that I like everything else about this car.

Also I know Elon Musk has his own ideas for design and believes we will all eventually come round to his way of thinking but I reckon Tesla should at least let us have the option of the virtual HUB, and then I wouldn't mind driving without the dials.

BTW, what is the actual name of the speed dials above the steering wheel in a normal car? I don't know the technical name for this?

I believe there is 4 versions, like long range, performance etc, the other versions do 280 miles and 300 miles and 0-60 in 3.5 seconds.

But I am just going for the cheapest version. The other version cost like $47000 and $60000 and I'm not sure how much that is in pounds.

EDIT: just checked the website again it says:

  • Standard Range = $39,000 - 230 miles - release date - 2021
  • Long Range = $47,000 - 300 miles - release date - 2020
  • Duel Motor AWD - $51,000 - 280 miles - release date - 2020
  • Performance - $60,000 - 280 miles - release date - 2020

Yes 4 variants, the cheapest option being the last to be released in 2021 just like they are now only releasing he cheap model 3.

GBP price shall be same or more than USD price, people in the UK seems stupid regarding such things, remember VAT and to move the steering wheel to the other side cost money.

It will be around the 40k mark no doubt, but still great value for money for a Tesla.

Normally you would be correct mate but Elon Musk has managed to work things out differently, don't ask me how.

For example the Model 3 is $35,000 but we're getting it for £26,000 here in the UK. And before the Model Y was announced he said it would only cost "about" 10% more then the model 3.

Instrument Dashboard or Binnacle which is derived from ships instruments.

The design has never been exciting but it may have wider appeal in a global market to get them out of the door. Just a simple HUD in addition would be enough for me.

The Honda EV has my interest though it's far more limited by it's compact design.

Why, on realising that they didn't need a grille for cooling, didn't they do something else? Instead of just whacking a great big flat bit on the front of the car which makes it look like they intended a grille and changed their minds at the last second?

I'd need two things confirmed before I'd consider it:

- UK pricing. US pricing is all very well but I'm going to pay £
- Towing. Is it going to be type approved for towing in the UK?

All the research I've done online says that Elon Musk said the Model Y would cost just 10% more then the Model 3 and built on the same platform sharing 70% of the same parts.

Every website I'm seeing on google is quoting £29,000. I saw one say website quote £29,360 and another £29,500.

And the Model 3 is £26,000.
