Because the inside of an i8 looks like a spaceship, it's rapid and you don't have to worry about running out of charge. (as often)

And as cheap as the Tesla interior is, it's compensated by the ridiculous performance, with a genuinely useful electric range (only something like the 40 miles at best for the i8!). Performance isn't that great either with the i8, even with both petrol + electric. External styling of the i8 is marmite as well.
