Test discs before sale

Hi,

I have a number of 1TB discs that I want to sell, I plan to wipe them with dban but while these discs don't have any warranty left they work fine, what's the best way to "prove" that to a potential buyer?

I thinking something that reads the SMART stats, what's good and free

http://www.hdtune.com/ can read S.M.A.R.T. data. You can use it to run an Error Scan (deselect Quick Scan).

If I was buying them, I'd expect a screenshots of the SMART status and a result at the end of a full test with the manufacturer's diagnostic tool.

i use hdd regenerator to test customers drives...any bad sectors and its bin time. Also if it doesnt finish test its had it.

Bit hard to take screeny as its a boot from cd program.

Has picked up faulty ones even when smart and hd tune tests show drive was fine

I do agree. But make sure You really use a full scan(not a quick scan). onced I had one hard drive with 20% of bad sectors and the disk was 100% clean during "quick scan". Only full scan will show You the truth.
