What sort of car do you want?

a) A great car. Good for going to the shops, looks good on the drive, nice interior, decent performance, not bad on a hoon, not bad on the Motorway - basically, not bad at everything.

b) A drivers car. Not quite so good for going to the shops. Not quite such a nice interior. Not quite so great on the motorway. But on the right road, with the roof down, an absolute blast to buy.

a) Scirocco
b) MX5

I've went to see a MX-5 Mk 3.5 recently and found the cabin cramped. I'm approx 6'.

My knees were pressing up against the interior facade. How do you taller guys sit comfortably in it? I moved the seat forward a little from full back so I could recline the back a bit to make it more comfortable.

The passenger seat felt cramped too.

I realise this is highly subjective but I was surprised about how tight it all was in the driving position. I don't recall reading too many complaining about this before though, so I must be in the minority.

I'm 6' 4 and I manage in my mk2 just fine. Obviously I can't speak for the mk3.5 but I find that, in mine at least, removing the footrest from next to the clutch helps a fair bit when it comes to legroom. Haven't put it back in since.

Would have to be an MX5 out of those but in manual! Would be a lot more fun than the other two and having the top down in the summer would be awesome (if we get any sun :p)

I have a 2.0 Scirocco with a DSG gear box. For a sporty shopping trolley, it is exciting when you want it to be (in sport mode, gearbox and adaptive chasis) because it does go, handles decently and is as 'involving' as a Golf gets.

However, I've also driven the MX5 MK2. If you want excitement and thrill, without question go for the MX5.

They're two incredibly different cars, though... can't you have both? One to do the shopping in, one to go driving in? ;)
