Test Drive Unlimited 3

TDU1 was an awesome game / TDU2 looked prettier but the driving physics were on par with Mario kart.

Also i think Atari had a part in making TDU2 not worthy of being a successor of TDU1 if i remember at the time with forcing them to release it early/unfinished.

The perfect game would be a The Crew / TDU size map with Forza/Forza Horizon/Assetto Corsa physics and cars.

I quite liked TDU2, even if it had some serious flaws, the basic driving and owning cars and environments were nice. The crew was made by the same lots of the same developers from Eden Games so I sort of consider it a sequel given it is the same premise but with more... badness.

Only the 2 easier driving models were like Mario kart - unless it got tweaked at some point between release and when I bought it which was IIRC 10 months later. Hardcore mode with assists off and a wheel sits somewhere between gamer and racer in Assetto Corsa (probably more towards gamer but not entirely arcadey).

Or maybe they did what I did - pre-order it and find out that it was released as v0.6, didn't even work at all for over a week and didn't work properly for quite a while afterwards. That sort of thing puts people off.

I didn't buy it until it had been out awhile - I think a lot of stuff must have changed a lot around 2-3 months after release as my experience of some aspects was quite different to what many people who played it from basically day 1 say.

If the rights were up for sale it would be nice if tdu remastered came out and by a good developer and publisher that supported it properly. As tdu2 was so badly supported it was a joke.

I logged into this today to find servers are dead and my saves are not being found - due to the server.

Gutted ain't the half of it, I had over 100 hrs of played time.

Test Drive Unlimited 2? the servers are up and down more than the proverbial - if you wait a few days and don't have another offline profile I think you can convert the profile into offline - unfortunately the game doesn't seem to have an option to do that if you already have an offline profile however or something.

Something I need to look into a bit more really as I still play from time to time and have a fairly decent setup online.

sounds interesting, ive only played online i think, could i continue offline ? id like to complete the map search

Well last night I created a single player save, but I have now removed that from the save location, in the hope that when the servers are back up it will find my online save.

Wish they'd release the server binary or something - still a great game with unique features and there is a massive modded version that changes/fixes a lot of stuff (though small chance it could get your account reset, etc. so I'd avoid it on the main account).

(Think its the big mod that also optionally has much more realistic driving physics)

Actually I got it a bit wrong - if you try to play online with an existing online profile when the servers are offline it should give you the option to continue your online profile as a copy offline (which can't be re-synced with the online profile later) if there is an existing offline profile however it won't give you that option and I'm not sure how to force it to give you the option again - backing up (don't delete it entirely) and deleting/renaming the Eden Games folder might work once the servers are online again or there might be a way to edit the profsave file I dunno.

EDIT: Hmm found an old install that predates making offline profiles and still can't make it work - dunno if they've changed it or something.

I just want the servers to come back so I can jump on and play some, just to remind me how much I'd done of the game.

Looks like the only sure fire way to get it going offline is to use the 3rd party universal unpacker/mod which is a bit of a grey area but if you don't care about playing online on the official servers any more its one option.

Servers were online about 2 days ago or so so should be back online in a day or so max - rarely goes more than a week before they come back.

Had my hopes up when this thread was bumped.. I still have TDU 1 on PS2. It's so.. different to the 360 version. I miss this game online.

A couple of years ago I decided to re-install TDU on my PC for my annual summer 3 day playfest on TDU and wondered if there were any hi-res graphics packs for the game. I was able to find some packs and installers that updated cars and scenery graphics to glorious hi-res. Of course these were unofficial packs and not an official remastered version but it might be worth looking them up and trying them out.
