Test Drive Unlimited - How does multiplayer work ?

I've got an online profile.

And I can see the other players on the map - maybe 10 to 15 at once.

But - I only occasionaly see them when driving around and then I only see about 3 or 4 names on screen.

Questions:

1) Surely there should be hundreds of people on the map
2) What can I do to actually find these poeple when driving to challenge them ?
3) What do the different colour names mean (red, orange, yellow etc)
4) Also when I try to enter a 'brown' multiplayer race there is never any race to run - help !

I've googled this and can't find a decent faq anywhere... If someone can answer some of the Qs above I would be v.grateful.

Found this which has helped.... Why this isn't in the manual is beyond me...

first drive to any Yellow flag


The Yellow flags scattered around everywhere, are showing Starting Points for Online Multi Race Tracks, join any of these and open the tab on the bottom called Online Pref's. Enable the option at the top called "Allow world challenges" or something like that . this will show all Multi race lobbies thoughout the island. works for either Non Ranked or Ranked. Lots of Lobbies today! once inside Click Switch Status the Green up. its on the bottom left corner

Change your online Prefs To allow world challenges
Click on Custom
Click Ranked or Non Ranked
At the top there is a tab called Create a Race
Select your race pref's
Click Switch Status
after everyones ready to race ... above your name is a tab called Start Race, click it to start
Non Ranked races Continue...
Ranked races require restarting your pit after each race...



About Free Roaming:

1. Use the F key to see the free roaming pop up, it shows people's names around you
2 When the Free Roaming pop-up is up use your number pads arrow keys (2,4,6, to navagate the pop up menues.
3 from this Pop-up you can highlight someones name (using the number pad again), youll see additional tabs that can add that person to your friends list, Lock on them (to form a group of UP TO 8 peeps to instant challenge), or you can Ignone them
4. Have fun
5 To Instant challenge others free roaming you simply flash your head lights at them.
6.you can also enable an instant challenges Stake Race and bet up to 10k per race, this is set up in your options under a tab called game settings
7. You cant warp by means of the map untill you unlock that particular road, you cant see most tuner shops, challenges, stores, homes,ect.. ect... untill you unlock them by driving past them... Gotta drive around the Island folks... It dont take that long its only a 1000+ miles of roads...lol

Next to the names on screen will be an arrow (if they aren't directly ahead), and a distance (in whatever units you have on your speedometer). For instance if I was slightly to the left of your current trajectory, it would say on your screen:

<-- fx.para* (1567 yds)

So I would be (as the crow flies) around 1500 yds from your current position, but not necassarily in view.
