Loved it! :)

I was bored and was heading to see the Missus and went past an Audi dealer, thought "why not" swung a U-Turn and parked up and walked in.

15 minutes later me and a young chap are heading to an '57 A3 1.8T with 67 miles on the clock.

Interior - love it, really like the dials, good sense of quality throughout, the stalks felt a little plasticy though but not to fussed about that.

Started her up and snailed off the dealer carpark, he told me of the enforced 5mph limit and he said "don't worry, when we get onto the a12 it's upto you how quick you get to 60 :)" I was grinning.

I couldn't believe how light the steering was when moving around at slow speeds, I dunno if it's because I'm used to manuvering a barge or what but I'm sure I'd get used to it, was a little juddery when first pulling off and braking, all brand new when I'm used to 9 years of wear and tear.

When on the main road going along at a happy 40 the feel of the gearstick felt great, nice short gear changes, good response, all in all lovely. Car was VERY quiet, I don't think I would have known it hard started if it weren't for the rev counter.

The throttle pedal I liked, was like the beemers, on the floor pushing down, than on a stick, felt very natural and I liked it, not sure what it would be like on a long journey though.

When on the A12 it accelerated nice and quickly without much effort at all, also when slowing down for lorrys or slow people the pickup from 4th and 5th was great, no sluggishness. Also I loved having the extra 6th gear :D felt very good!

Then we went round some roundabouts and he encouraged me to push it harder assuring me it would grip on the hot tarmac, it sure did, not like the Saab where I have about 17ft of suspension for the weight to transfer, I thought the handling was very good, and the seats held onto you well. Not much feel from the road itself though, which is a little disconcerting!

Overall, very impressed and I want one - but I won't buy on finance (not again :p) I'd rather save up and buy 2nd hand one, 54 plate or similar.

This weekend I've got a 330ci, 2004 WRX Booked, and a Civic Type-R booked, as I'm trying to decide what to save up for for when I have 2ncb in July :)

Was kinda hard to explain to the gf why I was late though!

330CI is the best car out of that lot by a mile, save yourself the bother :p

Yes, it certainly ticks all the boxes. But I still don't want one, maybe the drive will convince me :p

The cars I have listed, except the Bimmer I all want :p

The BMW drive may well convert you, people love them for a reason, they drive beautifully, and match it with top class quality and interior design.

I'd be also adding a lancer evolution into your list of test drives. Same insurance roughly as an impreza turbo, but better car.

Sounds almost exactly like my view on the car. It's a nice drive, it met most of the specs, but I didn't want to own it.

How much cash are you looking to spend, as the 1.8T (the current version) is a fairly new engine. 54 plate you're probably looking at a 2.0T or similar.

Nice review there, thanks a lot.

Just think how well that 1.8T would respond to a remap, you'd be looking at near enough 200BHP I would have thought.

;)

well bear in mind I won't be buying until July next year I'll be looking at atleast a 10k budget for the car, I'm starting a seperate account for insurance as insurance on anything remotely nice for me is pretty dreadful lol. But hopefully we'll see decent drops when that 2nd ncb comes into play :)

Ah, is this a new 1.8T, and not the 1.8T that's in my lovely 2004 Octy vRS? Thought the 2.0T was the new one...I suppose I should google it hehe

Do calm down dear, it's only 158bhp or something :p

Next time do it properly and take out a 2.0T.

12bhp more than my current car to be exact :p

oh and the weight difference...

and it's an Audi interior/exterior looks and styling compared to the Saab.

ok Sweetheart? :p

edit: I would've taken the new 2.0 TT out but they didn't have any, had the 3.2 but I didn't trust myself :p plus I don't think they would've let me lol.

You kept that quiet.

Is it the lesbian/bi friend?

We drove a 1.8T last Friday and sadly it was a lemon. One thing I just can't get on with is Audi heater controls. I can't get my mothers A4 right and the A3 was no different. An odd statement but I just can't get it how I want temp-wise.

Out of your choice the Type R will probably be the cheapest to own.

I didn't try out the controls, I just wanted to drive it to be honest, he played a little with temp controls etc but I just opened the window anyway as it was nice and warm.

It's a shame it's the ugliest though :(

Still gonna drive the thing though! lol

Which one? New civic or old?

Quite like the new shape one. The previous, although popular, doesn't really do anything for me. WRX obviously I have a soft spot for being a Subaru fanboi but insurance is a bit steep and breakages can be expensive. 330i I don't really know about but I would imagine serious breakages will make the WRX look cheap to repair - I would assume anyway.

A late spec diesel A3 mapped would be economical, rather nippy and cheap to insure.

I really don't believe I just said that :)
