I just bought an untested western digital WD800JD (80 gb sata) of ebay. My plan is if it works to replace my current ide drive containing windows with this one. Then using my ide drive in a different computer without sata.
I have just run HDtune on it and it reported no errors and says the drive is healthy, however the western digital diagnostic tools will not even run on the drive. It gives the error: Cable test Read Diagnostics sector error, plus it is still listing the maxtor that I removed so i could test this one and not the new drive.
Can anyone with experience of testing drives give me some other programs I can test it with, or give me an insight as to what could be going on.
