Testing a HDD

Does anyone know if theres a freeware out there that can test my HDD. Been having a lot of probs at mo with crashes, errors on sectors etc. 3 days ago did a full OS re install but seems to be slow now.

It is changing from -114 up to +4

also look at the manufacturers website, most have drive tools that will diagnose a fault with their drives (most of the time - I ran the seagate tests about a dozen times on one drive because i was having problem, everything was fine according to the test, right up until the machine wouldn't boot any more
