Testing a New Build Outside the Case

So I'm just putting a new build together, and want to test all the major components before I put it all inside the case. I have the motherboard on some cardboard as I didn't want to damage my desk when putting things together. Would it be fine to power up the system whilst the MB is still on this cardboard? Given it doesn't conduct electricity I am hoping so!

Thanks, Simon.

Your priorities are well backwards man :)

But you'll be fine powering it up on cardboard. I tend to fix the motherboard to the removable tray from the case when testing components, but the box the board came in is good too.

Gratz :D
We expect pics when its put togeather.

Haha, well I have been taking pictures as I've been going a long, so here is a preview of it when I just turned it on:

I plan on doing a whole build log once it is complete, but that won't be until Monday however as I'm waiting on my 4870X2 to be delivered. To test the system today I put in my rather old x850, definitely nothing to show off with lots of pictures! :p

Oh it's pretty. I like systems running on a desk quite a lot. What's the plastic fan mounting on the true called? It's far tidier than my cable ties.

Which case is it going into? I'll do a build log of my system at some point, it's been a work in progress for the last 8 months so really should get around to it

Or is it a Fenrir, and I'm no longer able to tell the difference?

Awsome Simon, I see you went with Patriot ram while it was on special same as I did :D
Hows that TRUE with the noctua push/pull working out for you btw?

It is indeed a TRUE, and they are Fan Holders made for the TRUE by Thermalright themselves. I went for them as I was advised it is much easier to install fans with them than the wires.

It's all going into a Lian Li PC-V2010B, so I will probably post the build log in Case Central as I haven't seen many people using that case, so will probably be more helpful in there!

Indeed I did! I had always planned to get the Patriot RAM, but as OcUK didn't stock it for a while my business almost went elsewhere. Then the day that I ordered my stuff OcUK added it to their line-up again so I picked it up at their excellent price!

As far as the push/pull on the TRUE is, I have no idea yet. :D I will let you know once I have installed Windows and begin overclocking.
