Hope this is not a silly question. I would like to hear your opinion if it is advisable to test a new system initially outside the case (placing PSU, mobo+viseo card on a desk). Or are you assemble everyting direct into the case and than test. ?

On another note, is it better to connect the case fans directly to a modular PSU or to the mother board (All four fans of a HAL 932 case are unregulated). ?

If your seriously confident with PC building I dont see a problem in building on a desk I've done it a few times, but still chances are all the hardware is fine and your just making your setup twice as long to build. Your better off getting it in the case to build first off!

Just throw it in there, making sure you've got motherboard risers in the right place etc...

I'd connect the fans to the motherboard if they are normal fans (not deltas etc). This way you can monitor speeds through software

connecting fans

Unfortunatly, the HAF 932 comes with 4 fans which have no speed control (2 pins). Gigabyte mobo has only 2 connectors, I have to connect two directly to the PSU.

and your just making your setup twice as long to build.
Also the more you handle components the higher the chances for accidentally breaking something either by drop or ESD.
Instead of doing work twice it's better to use that time for doing it once but carefully and thoroughly.

Id build it straight into the case, although i sometimes do the CPU and fan outside the case if its easier.

As for the fans...Id probably connect them to the mobo, this means you can control their speed in software. Although most of the fans i have are 4 pin molex.

It'd just take more time on your overall build time to build it ouside the case, what id reccomend is putting the cpu and cooler and the ram on the mobo before you put it in the case as its easier.
