i have a cpu i bought as a bundle from MM and pc stopped booting ...so i am starting to test parts in another pc i have but have come upon a problem...the cpu has been delidded and which i was not told about as would not have bought.

So what i wanna do is test this in another board....but with the cpu coming away from the top part it had what looked to me as normal paste between the 2 parts...nor from what i have read it looks like the wrong stuff was used i am not sure but to just test it can i use a little artic silver to see if the cpu works....
or is this to see if it boots then order the correct stuff....anyone got a idea thanks

no mate should have but didnt but any way not much can be done now ill learn to ask in future lol....

ok so ive tested the cpu it works ....so am i best buying the clp or clu or use normal paste on between the core and the heatsink.....thanks

Either liquid pro or ultra will do, ultra is a little thicker than pro. I would use it between the cooler and the heatspreader as well.

instead of artic silver between cooler and cpu...what one would you use pro or ultra ?
Id use pro/ultra on the die and on the ihs once youve put it back on the chip. Ive found ultra to be 5-6c better than normal paste even on a non delidded chip. There will be enough in the syringe to do both die and heatspreader.

I havent used pro myself yet, just ultra which is supposed to be a little thicker than pro.

i have liquid metal ultra between the IHS and Die then between the Die and Heatsink as i didn't like the idea of removing the heatsink from the Die each time.

I applied mine with the cotton buds supplied with the liquid metal ultra and its been fantastic for almost a year now. be extremely careful not to get it on any surface as its a bitch to get off!

Ultra is much easier to spread than Pro but Pro is supposed to very very very slightly better than Ultra
