Testing fan controller with no motherboard

My m/b has been rma'd, whilst I wait for a new one I decided to test some new fans, by connecting my psu's molex connector to the lamptron fc5v2 and connecting a fan to a channel.

However, no light came on and the fans did not spin. How can I test it with no board?

You would need a 12V power supply surely? PSU won't power anything without motherboard telling it to do so.

You can trip it so that it will start, can find guides online, but at your own risk.

Short the green PSU wire with a black wire.
