Testing memory?

I am setting up a new pc with 1024mb memory in one chip. However i have a spare 256mb chip also, i want to test if the pc will be slower with or without the extra 256mb chip as ive had it sitting around a while. Is there any utilities i can use to test my new pc with and without the 256mb chip?

I would also suggest www.memtest.org before booting to Windows. If the combination of the 2 mixed memory modules is unstable using Memest in DOS, DO NOT boot into Windows. Sisoft Sandra is a good tool also.
