Testing read\write reliability.

Can anyone suggest an app that will test whether or not my HDD is scrambling data when it reads\writes it from\to disk? If there isn't an automated test, I'll maybe just try making & then CRC checking a ton of giant RARs.

I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem with some file corruption. I actually suspect that that its limited to downloaded files, but I want to eliminate the HDD. Windows would fall over pretty quick wouldn't it if the HDD couldn't reliably store\ retrieve data, even if it was just very occasionally?

thanks!

Event log shows many:

"The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort0."

I'm surprised the system is still functioning as well as it is. Aside from a few corrupted downloads Vista has been running 24/7 without crashing, and I've also been playing L4D without problems. Curious.

I'll try swapping the cable.

I really hope I don't have to move harddisk again so soon. I just got done reinstalling due to my last HDD (sata, this one is IDE) nuking itself one morning and refusing to bios-detect. /sigh

I'm still puzzled that it can be detecting multiple controller errors everyday, but still functioning fairly normally. Bizzaro.
