Tethering

im on 3 the one plan or what ever it is they call it with the unlimited data, always tether, its my main source of internet when im away for work (often weeks at a time) and i nail it.

never had a problem!

I personally use three on PAYG

Costs 15 per month for unlimited Internet, although teathering is not allowed I have never had a problem

My theories
As I'm on PAYG they turn a blind eye as I'm not tied in
They can't detect due to being an android phone or something

I've installed linux on my android phone. I wonder what the network things when it sees that in the headers. I don't don't bother spoofing the useragent or anything.

I'm on T-mobile's truly unlimited plan, which the t&cs forbid tethering. I ignore that though since they were fined and forced to remove their ads as 'truly unlimited' should mean without any restrictions.

So why do they all ban it? Especially with Wifi tablets being popular now. Surely the quicker you munch through your 1Gb package the quicker they can charge you for more data, which you'd think they would want.

It seems to get treated like its some sort of evil dark art.

I'd imagine it's far more profitable for them to charge people for data they don't use than charge more for people who overuse data. Since tetherers are more likely to munch data than normal users, they lose out.

quite probably, I have 1gb a month yet I use about 100mb if that as when im at at home or work/ parents/ friends etc im connected to a wifi, and when im out and about I can use a bt wifi for free using my work account

Orange look so comically uncompetitive I wonder why anyone uses them. Cheapest plan with more than 1Gb of data - offering 2gb - is £41 a month!

£46 a month for anything more than 1Gb though, which seems extortionate.

I aman Orange user since 2008 and I can say their service had been flawless thus far. That said, I find Orange/EE pricing on their website stupid.

I however upgrade with them either via CPW or wait for them to phone me up, they will offer me better deals that way.

When the Lumia 920 came out, it was £50 for the phone on top of £36 monthly for 900mins, unlimited text and 1GB data. A phone call from them and I got the phone for free, same plan for £26.50 + £40 cash back, 24 months contract.

Doing a little maths, the phone was around £450-£500 PAYG, my phone plan works out to be £8ish monthly.

You tried phoning Orange/EE and to see what they can offer you over the phone? Be even easier if you try and bring in Three's better plan per month and see what they counter offer?

Tethering works on the £10 giffgaff deal, but does not work on iPhone.

Does this mean that an android phone could tether for an iPad? Surely 1GB is enough data for a month Fox?

2 weeks ago I signed up for a T-Mobile (EE) 12 month contract - unlimited everything (voice, text and data) - for £9.50 a month.

Originally £32pm, down to £16pm, plus ~£75 cashback on topcashback = £9.50pm. I believe that deal was posted on here.

My girlfriend and I both signed up and are up and running now, nothing but good things to say - tethering is available on my iPhone and I've used it a couple of times (nothing big).

Was it T-Mobile itself, or EE? T-Mobile doesnt allow Tethering.

It's worth noting that only "The One Plan" allows tethering as part of the package, at least officially.

I'm not on the One Plan but I can tether to my hearts content using the built in wifi tethering on my SGS2 - never had an issue and I've streamed football matches on the move with it, using 1Gb over 90 mins.
It is for this reason I like 3 and not their customer service (which is why I'm on a rolling sim only deal)

I cannot tether (iPhone 4s, Ultimate Internet 600).

I think sims older than 12 months allow you to tether. Also, people are reporting that if they buy the tethering add on then cancel after a month it allows you to tether for ever more. It is also a lot easier to get around on Android.

I'm not saying some people won't get lucky but officially (on new contracts at least) it is only officially support on the one plan (it even tells you tethering is not supported on any other plans if you look up the t's and c's).
