Seems a hell of a lot of money for a pair of speakers in which the bass driver is less than 3 inches in diameter. For that money I'd be looking at Adam or Rokit or just something a lot cheaper.

they seem to be crap from the 30 seconds or so it took me to look at several reviews (basically i looked at the scores given and glanced at the overview/headlines).

I would avoid personally. That's the reason why nobody has heard of them, because they simply aren't that great.
 
Sorry, but Teufel do really good speakers. They are very well known in Europe.

I have had a few of their systems and they really are very good for the price.

They are really good to deal with and you can return the stuff to them if you don't like. You have an 8 week return policy. Also a 12 year guarantee. They are pretty confident in their products. They also have really good customer service.

Not sure why Whatfi rates their speakers so poorly when audio magazines and websites in Germany and Netherlands give them really good ratings.

I can't comment on the speaker the OP is looking at though. Don't know how good or bad it is.
 
some of them do have good reviews it's just the majority don't or they say there are better options for the money.

i noticed a few with 4/5 from my quick glance but a lot were 2/5 or 3/5.
 
I don't read What HiFi anymore, It's a terrible site that gives great reviews to products by manufacturers that are advertising on their site. Generally the reviews of products not been advertised on their site use a lot of audiophile babble and point you to "better" products, which usually are been advertised on their site.

Maybe things have changed in the last few years. Yes, it's been that long since I have gone onto their site :) So you can probably guess I didn't click on the link you posted :p

The german and dutch websites probably have the same bias!! :D But, before I bought from Teufel I spent a long time on Dutch and German forums getting opinions from people.

You are always taking a bit of a gamble when buying online, because sound is so subjective, you don't know what you are getting. But, based on every speaker that I got from Teufel, I would have no trouble recommending them.
They have well built, well finished products, that look and feel good, with an 8 week return policy and great customer service. It's as risk free as you are going to get.
