How many messages would be sent per day?

2 a week. Maybe more as we have something in place it may be the team end up using it more often

You could use twilio (https://www.twilio.com/sms/pricing/gb) to set up a number ($1.00 per month) and send the messages to that number ($0.0075 for each message received).

Then you could set up a script that runs at an interval, pulls the messages from twilio using the API and send those message in an email. The script could be set up on something like AWS lambda that gives you 1million free invocations each month. The email could also be handled by AWS SNS that gives you 1,000 free emails each month.

You are really making a mountain out of a mole hill. Just tell them to pick up the phone and call. No need for technology implementations. Or are they deaf? (question?)

Fyi @Fairly sure the answer is no, Google Messages now supports text messages through a desktop browser. Might be of use.

Thanks. Our solution was to buy a 7 inch tablet with 4g. Have a £5 sim in there so now staff can WhatsApp and text whenever and it's picked up when she's in the office, and we do that through the Web app as you've said which is fantastic BTW, and WhatsApp Web, and Google photos for any photos they've sent we have too. Very convenient I must say. The tablet even turns auto on and off at certain days and times so is ready to go when we need it and barely uses any battery
