Got the latest catalysts installed (8.12) but am getting some texture tearing :(

Its quite hard to describe, and I havent yet managed to get a screenshot but imagine a rendered vertical object (tree if you like), the texture dissapears off into the distance (in perspective) horizontally. Almost like it didnt stop "drawing" it on the edge and continued to.

Happens in a few games, is occasional but once it starts it requires a reboot to solve. Relogging the game wont suffice.

Vista64 Ultimate, Abit IP43, 4gb Corsair, OCZ 500w stealtstream. Everything at stock, nothing OC'd at all.

Any ideas?

Oh, i get the odd random artifact too - very rare and very small.

I know what you are talking about, I was getting this on 8.11s but fixed on 8.12s (4870 1Gb btw, same OS, same amount of RAM as you) after extended gameplay, say ca. 1½ hours+. :)

Is there any updated BIOS available for your mainboard and/or card?

What`s your temps like?

Yes, it is after extended gameplay... usually after about 2 hours or so i'd say.

Is there something I can use to monitor the temps?

There is a mobo bios available but it only fixed a problem i dont have, i'll do that anyway then.

No idea on GPU bios!! Didnt even know you could update them lol :) Any advice on that?

Yes mate, here :)

I would only suggest flashing with an official HIS bios though, if there`s an updated one for you that is :)

GPU-Z has a log to file option but I`ve never monitored temps. I just sorta game for half an hour then check that all is well in CCC sp someone more knowledgeable may wanna chip in ;)

Hmmz well i've run gpuz loggin and after one hour the temps have not exceeded the following

GPU Temp.(DISPIO) [°C]
44

GPU Temp.(MEMIO) [°C]
52

GPU Temp.(SHADERCORE) [°C]
47

Cant find a HIS official bios update anywhere either :(

OK man, so you`ve been playing that game for an hour and those are your temps ... that`s one mint card!

What`s your settings in CCC? :)

Your 4 gig of ram, it will have a rated voltage on it. Match it in the BIOS rather than rely on auto settings :)

Its rated 1.8-1.9 so i've tried both to no avail. Still happens at around 2hrs of playtime and requires a full reboot of the machine to come back to normal. Odd thing is its around 2hrs later that it reapears which leads me to believe its not heat related.

I've tried removing the drivers, using driver cleaner in safe mode and then reinstalling to no effect.

All my other assoicated drivers are as new as I can find also. Getting kinda annoying now! :(

Hope that makes more sense for whats happening, look in the background... its a mess!

I get certain dots and texture buffering in oblivion and GTA4. The reason you're getting such problems is that your game is probably a poorly optimised game for Ati or any card for that matter. It doesnt look like a top rated branded game so you'r likely to get texture buffering. Either patch your games up, updat bios, catalysts, etc and I guess that should do the trick.

I m on 32bit vista with a standard HD4870, I also sometimes get stuff like that. its very rare for me now, the only problem is crashing, i don't think thats down to my card through.

try reinstalling CCC? and use driver sweeper etc might work or adjust your settings in CCC I noticed that if certing things are appkied in certin games it start going buggy. I have problem with farcry2 DX10 its keep going into windows mode no idea why and after like 2-3 hours it crashes to desktop after doing some odd things

branded game? heh.. its EAGames/Mythic (same people as Warhammer online) and it seems that nobody else has these problems on a 48xx :(

I'll give the driver clean and reinstall a bash again then, really getting on my nerves now as I've upgraded from an old P4/7900gs system to this and its actually worse :(

my bad, I've never seen such a game that looks so, well, badly designed. Well, I get weird patterns glitching on games such as M2TW and DiRT ever since I got a 4850. Nothing that would make me hate the card though, I love it since it can literally max anything. I just hope ATi make some good drivers with all this success they've been having lately

what temps is it running at ? might be over heating...look in CCC for that if its is indeed overheat, use the fan control thingy xD

I had something similar in Fallout 3, but it only happened twice in my entire playthrough (some sessions were 6+ hours srtaight with no problem). In my case it was not an issue of random moving geometry or anything like that, on one occasion it was a small area of terrain a few poly's across that was distorted and the other time it was a certain mesh used in vaults. Every instance of that same mesh was distorted in exactly the same way so i reckon there could be a rare bug with the way resources are fetched.

For me however restarting the game was enough to correct the issue.

I've not seen the problem in any other game yet though, including Crysis looped benchmark at very high settings with lots of aa/af (which is considerably more work for the card than Fallout 3).

EDIT: Now i think of it, i seem to remember ATI having a bug back when Mafia was released that caused severe geometry corruption.
