TF2 advice

You really just dont get it do you................. how about we have a game sometime, it would be quite a shock for you not playing ED teams :)


I really dont get what? The fact that there are people out there that are good at aiming a cross hair and are accurate and can kill stuff? Or that Snipers are still a crappy weak class when compared to anything else?

Why would it be a shock to play other clans? Because theyre so much better? I know theres way better clans out there, Ive never professed to be in a world ranking tf2 clan.

My point still stands, until they change the Sniper class and the way it works, it will always be substandard.
 
Anyone ever been in a server when one of the admin kiddies ports you to the enemy spawn and ohko's you? xD

Phal, the sniper can be one of the most dangerous classes in the game, i merely say try playing a good team so that they can show you why ;) all theories will go out of the window.

Heal anyone and everyone constantly
In build phases get a soldier or demo to hurt themselfs and charge your Uber faster (although I belive a valve fix changed this so it just charges faster)
Hide round corners, you will be surprised how far your healing gun will reach
keep your own health up
Use ubers on decent players! (check the score board for positions)
Never stand still
dont even bother trying to kill people with the needle gun, its a waste of time, just run and hide, no one will call you a wimp
use your uber at the right time, i.e. heal a heavy, let him mow some people down at a major conflict area until hes almost dead, then uber him and push hard.

I know Snipers can kill a lot if theyre half decent etc blah blah BUT



BUT!!



They are too easily circumvented ( go another route to avoid them )
They die easily
They are crap close / medium range
They have a very narrow field of vision when zoomed in.
They get sucked into Sniper duels and then you effectively lose a member from each team
They have a slow Firing rate
They bring no other useful features/perks to the rest of the team.
They cant even jump on a point to defend it when it gets rushed since theyre usually too damn far away.
They cant do anything against ubered targets ( demos / soldiers / engineers can all knock them or push them back )
Can only really hit the slower targets reliably



And again, Ill repeat this again!

Snipers could be awesome on your team but only if he had aimbot like skillz and only on a map that suited it because lets face it, there arent that many maps with 1 decent Sniping area, let alone 2-3.

All maps are made with all classes in mind ( in theory anyway ) and unfortunately, this pretty much craps all over the Snipers since they are the only long range specialists. All other classes are short/medium range so maps are designed with this in mind.

TF2 came from Quake and is still similar in a lot of ways. If you play Quake or Unreal games, the Rail Gun and Sniper rifle/ Plasma rifle are good but thats only because you can carry all the guns and switch between them. I never played Unreal games that much but I cant imagine trying to deathmatch in Quake with only a Railgun and the crappy Nailgun :/
 
I would hate to see tf2 public play changed in any way, its fine as it is.

Except the re-spawn times! I took one for the team yesterday - suicide solo pyro charge straight into the enemy attack at first cap on stage 3 of dustbowl (over 14 minutes to hold out and they had just steamrollered us on the first 2 stages), must have set 5 or 6 of them on fire, killed a couple, including the medic, sent the whole attack on retreat, when most of my team were camping around the corner.

And what thanks do i get? A 20 second re-spawn punishment :mad: Finally re-spawn and we've got no teleporters (and 2 engie's!) Didn't stop me doing it again, mind, but I cannot think of any other 20-second period in life that feels SO LONG.

I just think shorter re-spawns would be even more fun. Love pretty much everything else about the game though.
 
Can we give the sniper argument a rest now please? its starting to do my head in. Agree to disagree and move on, cos we'll end up repeating ourselves for ever at this rate.

There are new official maps on the way, I've heard they will be included on the big update that also has all the new achievements in it. Knowing Valve, it probably won't be around for a few months though! :p

I agree, it can be a bit of a pain sometimes, but it does give me chance to text my gf, so she doesnt feel neglected! :p

Respawn waiting time has to be in the game.

Attackers have a shorter respawn time, since they have further to go. If the respawn times were equal, defending teams would be all over the cap.

As for snipers, I very occasionally snipe, when necessary. If the oppossing team's sniper has been having a heyday, 'cause your team has no snipers or they're crap, go snipe 'im in the head few times and he'll probably bugger off. Other than that, I find sniping too boring, but fine if other people want to do it.
