TF2 advice

Been playing loads of TF2 lately. Found this video by a guy called Floor_Master. Don't know if he found an exploit/bug but i'm sure he's probably already banned.

However, the video is funny: TF2 Griefing

Edit: Should say, the video has been done with DivX, so will need the DivX Webplayer.

I find being a spy, you tend to get dominated a lot. I'm not quick enough to plant the zapper then switch to knife or gun to finish off the engineer. If you attack him first the SG puts you down.

No sap the sentry first - remember it takes him at least 2 whacks to knock off the sapper so you can knife him then.

If he's a good engie, sap, then shoot him with your magum while he's hitting your sapper, sap again and repeat. Just stay out of range of his wrench, apparently a wrench is more lethal than an RPG sometimes:)

Being a spy is something i've been meaning to ask about. If you have a sapper on a sentry can it then shoot at you as soon as you attack the engineer?

Another tip with the medic is dont be afraid to use the melee weapon if you need to....i find it far better than the gun

Spy - Do not disguise as a heavy or scout, the move speed gives it away. If you get shot at act as if your not taking damage.
Medic - Stick to a heavy/soldier/pyro like glue
Scout - DONT STOP MOVING
Engineer - Build sentrys in the right spot, remember a sentry will kill a player, dont be afraid to let it see combat. Teleporters make a MASSIVE difference to the game, get them up.
Sniper - Charge it up and aim for the body. This will kill most players and less chance of a wasted shot to the head.
Soldier - Allways aim for the feet, the splash from the rocket does the damage, not a direct hit.
Demo Man - Use the sticky bombs to do jumps by running over them and detonating. Use them to also protect yourself, stand near them and barrage with the launcher, if somebody wants to get you they must go over your sticky bombs.
Pyro - Firstly you move slightly faster than allmost all classes, use this to your advantage and keep moving. Secondly the flame thrower does LOADS of damage to buildings, take them out with the pyro. Scouts and spys, just concentrate on setting them alite, thier low HP does the rest.
Heavy - You have a lot of HP but your slow, dont just stand there and take it without a medic, youll lose. When you are firing allways move TOWARDS the enemy player. youll end up hitting them more and reduce thier manouverability.

Just a very basic list, but sound advice.

no the sapper Disables and then destroys... so you are safe to take out the engineer... another option is to break out your pistol and shoot the sentry... the pistol is very strong and with the sentry already dying quickly from the sap its quite possible to take it out completely before the engi even has a chance to react and come to its rescue... this obviously only works if the engi is off tending to something else nearby and not sat behind his sentry with the wack button held down :)

people play the spy too foolishly.. like every other class it is all about picking your battles.. pull the engineer away from his sentry by going for his teleporter first.. a good engi should never loose his sentry to a spy unless he is busy with something else

No, I think its the other way around. If you decloak or attack while being the imposter, the SG will attack you. If you put the zapper on the SG while cloaked it will go dead. its a case then of taking out the enge ASAP.

I find the melee of the sniper useful sometimes. Can take people out with one hit sometimes. The machine gun I find a bit useless.

Think I've been the soldier or medic the least amount of times.

Ahh, brilliant tips, cheers! :D

I've only recently starting trying out the spy. Liking him on Fort for sneaking up on snipers.

It's funny how I've played medic so much in tf2 I keep trying to heal people with the link gun in ut3.. And I heal vehicles a lot ;). Also medic is the least played class according to the stats: http://www.steampowered.com/status/tf2/tf2_stats.php and surprisingly the one with the shortest life...

The other interesting thing about the stats is the people who have died outside the map on the kill map things
Medics are the people that everyone goes for when they're seen so it's not all that surprising that they have the shortest life on aggregate.

The worst thing about being a medic is being ubercharged with no one around or ubercharging someone who wastes it.

I always noticed that disguising as a Heavy slows you right down to the same speed as a real Heavy, Scout is pretty much the only dead giveaway when running.

Also, if you find you can't find a good compromise between FPS and quality, use DX 8.1 (adding -dxlevel 81 to the command line), you'll lose some shiny effects but you can probably double your FPS even in hectic firefights.

For those really awkward engineers as a Spy, find somewhere *very* close to hide, charge cloak to full, then try and crouch-jump on top of the engi camping behind his sentry in the corner, he won't know you're there, then you need to be really quick to backstab him whilst it's actually possible to sap the sentry before it gets a chance to kill you.

exactly being a spy disguised as a heavy might slow u down to the heavy's speed making you look realistic.. but then ** too much of a fat heffer to be able to knife anyone :D

the best people to be are snipers i think.. they are expected to hang back and not be shooting constantly (units like demomen and soldiers look suspicious if they are not firing pretty much all the time when there are badguys nearby)

Same with not being a scout.. you might be about as fast as a scout.. but you cant double jump and just look wrong

medic is another good one as your victims run up to u :D

I rarely go Medic, I just find that a smart player would notice there's no charge stored and that you aren't healing anyone.

Snipers tho :D too right, especially disguise as one just to waste the sniper who usually just killed me anyway.

only scratching the surface but here's some quick tips of mine (mainly my annoyances haha)

Engi: push forward when attacking, your team needs teleporters and dispensers to keep the push on. Scary how many attacking engineers I see setting up back near the spawn and staying there for the rest of the game just happily hammering away :/. Oh and help your fellow engineers out! you'll get buildings built quicker if you're both wrenching them! if you've got no metal and have nothing to do during set-up start wrenching those dispensers to get em built quicker! Call out and let your team know when spies are about, learn the "help" voice command too, you'll notice you'll probably have more success of taking out spies if you just club them outright with your wrench rather than blasting/reloading and missing with your shotgun.

Pyro: learn the range of your flamethrower, and learn it well, if someone's running away and is just out of reach after you've flamed them don't forget about your shotgun! it could be just the ticket ya need to finish the job before ya get ambushed. Very satisfying.

Spy: learn how long your visible when disguising and when cloaking, spectate a spy and check it out until you've gotten a general feel for it. A handy tip is the "B" key (or whatever you want to bind it to), it disguises you to your last disguise all in one handy press so you don't need to be fumbling through your weapons. When all exlse fails, you've been discovered and can't cloak whip out your handgun, it's a decent enough weapon. I think this vid sums up how to play a decent spy nicely: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-qD30EOO-o

Medic: General rule of thumb is to uber Heavy, Demo, Pyro or Soldier. Ubering pyro is one of my personal favs, you can do a hell of a lot of building damage. Heavies are great buddies, but you should heal everyone who needs it, oh and heal the other medics when they need it! keep each other alive so you can all keep the rest of the team alive. I swear it's like I've got a big "DON'T heal me!" sign on me when I'm a medic and call out to another medic beside me. Just cause I'm wearing a doctors outfit doesn't mean I can perform brain surgery on myself!

Soldier
: aim for the ground below your target, you mightn't get a direct hit but you'll at least cause splash damage, while a nicely aimed face rocket that whizzes pass your target at the last second does 0 damage.

Its a royal PITA as a sniper when you get taken out by a spy. And they come back and do it again as soon as you've set up once respawned.

When relocating, if there is a sniper already there I'll give them a quick chop chop just to check. :)

A good sniper never uses the same spot twice :p
