TF2 advice

I'm starting to hate 2fort just as much as the original(s). CP maps are just way more fun, also had an awesome stint in defense as sniper on the 2nd round in Dustbowl yesterday, headshorts galore! :D

Forts OK but after the first few minutes unless you've got complete divvy engineers it becomes a stalemate very quickly. Or if your a bit poo as a Spy (me) Can usually get the first intel to base but after that its a PITA.

Dustbowl is really good. Everyone seems to know about the expoilts at the start and those that don't complain bitterly about a headshot before the game starts :)

Ive begun to master the medic. staying alive for well over 5 mins a life, healing everyone who comes near me, ubercharging 2 or 3 times per life, and topping the score sheets because you get assits for people killed by the person you are healling.

Its a very unused character because the world is full of people who just want to run and shoot and kill people, not play as part of a team. 2Fort is a prime example, when you play it and there 3 or 4 snipers on each team just up on the top shooting each other. They arent doing anything at all to actually complete the mission...

when you get a good server with team player however, its awsome! I have lost count the ammount of times Ive had to shout at people to stand on the control points. no body seems to know that if there is someone from your teams stood on a control point, the other team cannot capture it. no point in shooting at them from a distance while they just hop about on the point and then claim it, run in with ** mele weapon, or a pyro, they wont be able to capture for the small ammount of time your there, you may even get a kill or 2, and while there shooting at the pyro running around their feet, other can contiune shooting from afar.

EDIT: What exploits in dust bowl? The only ones i know of are jumping over the trains with rockets and grens on Well, or sniping through the gaps?

I agree with the Sniper comment on Fort. You end up sniping the other snipers and not stopping the assualt force over the bridge.

Not sure how much TF2 I can get in before xmas. My wife has started to refer to herself as "The TF2 widow" so I think I'm going to have to take a break for a few days.

Im home from uni with my Intel GMA 945 graphic card laptop for company only, so TF2 will have to wait until i return to my gamming rig at Uni. I will however, be bringing it tasty holiday treats in the form of a GT and a new case and CPU cooler... So im sure it wont mind the 3 weeks of neglect.

I, on the other hand, am bored out my skull!

heh sniper is such a useless class :)

medics should be the most important target for a spy yes as they are the most valuable... a heavy can be killed and will be back in 30 seconds... but if u kill the medic just before he uses his uber then that will seriously delay a teams assault

It really annoys me when people start saying a certain class is rubbish compared to the others, usually cos they're either rubbish at that class or getting pwned by that class.

Its a team game, and it takes a mixture of classes that fit the situation to win the game. Half the game is knowing what class you need to be so you fit in with the team.

Dustbowl is my favourite map, and I love being a sniper on it because you can really pin teams back (and take out medics too! :p) on either side. But if there's more than 2 or 3 snipers already then its time to be something else.

You've also got to spot these patterns in the opposing sides line-up. Too many enemy scouts rushing the points? Get up plenty of SG's to mow them down. Lots of enemy snipers? Get the spys and scouts in to get up-close and personal with them. No class is useless, they just have their own individual sets of strengths and weaknesses.

PK!

It's why sniper is a support class, since you don't need many of them and are awful at holding off direct assaults if there were too many, same for spy and medic. It's particular combinations that is the key, and each class has their role in the bigger picture.

I personally love switching to something to counter the largest threat, whether it be weak pushes due to no healing/ubercharges, or burning saboteurs who are creating holes in your defenses with sapped buildings, and after a while the enemy gets fed up of you and switch themselves.

I was playing medic last weekend and came top as well  You can get a few kills yourself (spies attacking you etc) but kill assists are great :)

Well in matches medics generally top the scoreboards by a long way, especially if its a close game. Its nice to see people start to understand how TF2 works though, can almost see the different phases i went through in my opinions of classes :) I mostly play matches a lot, and suprisingly after playing an awful lot, all classes are viable but not on every map all other "x class is bad" is purely down to skill differences in the people playing them. I'll destroy any class as a scout if the player isnt top notch but if the opponent is good i'll aim for the ones the scout is designed to kill (medic/spy/demo/soldier)

Is there a technique to using the pyro? Or do I just suck? Its the only class im really poor with. I can set people alight fine by hiding round corners, but they always kill me before they die, then heal, so im dead with no kills?!

Pyros are the second fastest moving class (after Scout) IIRC, use it to your advantage, strafing/strafe-circling is your biggest friend. Also keep on the pressure if the range isn't ideal for your flamethrower with using your shotgun instead. Also good to get some practice against the easiest targets for a Pyro: Medic, Spy and Sniper (basically the support classes) since they die easily and they can't outrun you. When you're standing right next to someone is when you deal the biggest damage so that's another reason why your speed and maneuvrability is important.

Find a good medic to ubercharge you and watch the fireworks :D

Little known fact, medics are the second fastest ;)

If you're having trouble withe the pyro, just make sure you don't chase people too much, most of the time you'll end up with a rocket to *** face. Get the shotgun out for a couple of shots unless it's a heavy or summit like that.

I am running TF2 through Steam and wonder if it would be quicker if installed on its own (i.e. from the Orange box)?

I guess it should be no different but I wanted to put the question out there.

In busy scenes I go down to about 25fps on 1280x1024 medium.

Also, are there any guides available on the net for how to get the best out of each character, I am thinking particularly of the engineer and medic.

That seems strange. I currently run a 7800GT with a single core A64 @ 2.45GHz (until Thursday then my upgrade arrives woo!) and I play at 1280x1024, max everything, 4xMSxAF and I get 30-40 FPS.

seems to be a lot of TF 2 players in here

what servers do we all play on ? im normally on UKCS server or some of the 24/7 2 fort ones

and feel free to add me to your steam buddy list, i need some friends :(

steamid is (both supprisingly and originally) mrlol

hehehe this is my point... while the sniper might not be useless, and might be able to occasionally get quite a respectable kill count on 2fort it doesn't add anything to the team... 3/4 of the time snipers only kill other snipers sat in 2 points not really defending anywhere important... not actually attacking a point.. just shootin each other

a total waste of time... give me 2 soldiers and a medic over 10 snipers any day

As for pinning down an entire team this is not ww2... u might kill the first guy around the corner... but the rest of the team wont fall back, they wont hide.. they will rush u and make u their *****

anyway as for pyro's yes they are a hard class to play despite their lack of a real need to aim.. you need to play sneaky, hide round corners.. pop up where people dont expect...

they really should be a defensive class really as they totally suck on offense.. their range is a complete joke, they have next to no health, despite what people say they aren't really very fast and they are a light class that gets battered around by sentry guns waay too easily

so play on the defence, wait for your opponents to come to you... give um a couple of quick blasts with the flamer... they will then start to retreat at which point you hit em with a couple of rounds from the shotgun to finish them off while they retreat

as people have said if you ambush a heavy in this way you can dance around them fast enough that you should be able to kill them without taking too much damage... unless u get critted

watch out for soldiers aiming at their own feet as you will die before they do

and if you do attack someone from range for the love of god hit them with the shotgun on the approach and only pull out the flamer to finish them off
