Hi guys

I am all of a sudden getting bad choke in TF2.

I have reinstalled Windows and drivers and copied the steam folder over but that is all.

My rates are fine. 25000/66/66

I have rebooted my router but it's still spiking badly.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

could be Server,ISP,BT work in your area,or bad route that your traffic is taking

try UKCS TF2 servers there the best for ping so try there for a while see if it persits if it does its Not the server that rules one thing out.

Visit ukcs.net for ips

Choke is either your rate has reset its self to something very low, or your fps is less than 66. The fact it's spiking I'd guess the latter.

Have you tried:

rate 10000
cl_updaterrate 100
cl_cmdrate 100

I was having similar issues a while ago, randomly came out of nowhere, the above settings seemed to fix it for me even though I had it working perfectly beforehand with no rate adjustments. It has nothing to do with ping/latency at all as I was getting it on 30ms UK servers but not on 175ms+ US servers.

Check out the thread I made about it: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17852887

AFAIK, all cl_updaterate and cl_cmdrate are max 66. As all TF2 servers are max 66 tick.

No idea what might be causing the choke, looks like you've tested it pretty extensively. I find on public servers I get more lag and for some reason when I set cl_updaterate and cl_cmdrate at 67 it seemed to improve things (even though they're supposed to be max 66 ? :s). Not sure if this is related to choke in any way :p

This might be of some use Source Multiplayer Networking Wiki

Have you tested any empty servers? I always got better ping/less choke/higher fps on good UK servers with less people on (<12).

I take it your cl_interp and cl_interp_ratio are set at default? Again not really sure if it's linked to choke but afaik the defaults are:
cl_interp 0.1
cl_interp_ratio 2

Hope you get it sorted out! Might be worth asking on the Steam Forums or ETF2L forums That's where I went when I had a load of questions about rates, networking, etc and I got it sorted out :)
