Hi guys.

What does Field Of View in TF2 actually do? You can choose between 75 and 90, but what's the difference and what do you usually have yours set to?

Cheers

90 myself, although I'd go 120 if I could. I prefer about 120 even though it looks odd as it makes the game feel faster and fits my playstyle better.

There also seems to be 2 FOVs in TF2. There is one in the Video settings and there is one in the multiplayer profile settings. They both seem to do slightly different FOV changes from each other.

The one in video settings is for the game's FOV. The other setting in the game options is to change the FOV on the weapon model you see at the bottom right whilst playing.

I've never actually noticed the setting in the options. Maybe I've found an excuse for being poo?

Is there an "ideal" setting for 4:3 or just mess about till you get what feels right?

I find 90-110 fits your "natural" vision better... anything under 90 can make me feel motion sick - tho it can increase your efficency at longer range targetting but you will miss some action in the peripheral.

With a game like this where there is constant action going on around you, you want a pretty high FOV. The only real advantage of lower FOV is that it is a bit easier to aim at enemies in the distance, but since there are not all that many hitscan weapons that need pinpoint accuracy in TF2, there's basically no reason you should use it.

As high as possible is best IMO, I used to play rtcw at 120FOV with a script to change to 65 when crouched or prone for long distance shooting...
