TF2 Loading Problem

I'm aware that there are other threads on this topic, but none seem to offer a viable solution.

The game used to work fine, but it crashed today and now when I try to run it, it just hangs on the loading screen.

I've deleted the local game content and redownloaded it, but that didn't help. I also deleted ClientRegistry.blob, but to no avail.

Any ideas? I'm running 64-bit Vista by the way if that's of any relevance, and my other steam games (even those using the Source engine) run fine.

Cheers.

Have you disabled you AV? TF2 really hates most AVs..

Does it fall over before, or after the VALVe video? If before, it may be a bink problem.. either re-download the bink dll's, or use the -novid launch option :)

I don't run any anti-virus software on my gaming desktop. In fact pretty much everything which isn't necessary is disabled (including UAC). It happens after the intro videos, but for what it's worth I tried the -novid launch command but it didn't help.

Thank you for your advice, though.

Something which I probably should've mentioned earlier: the game was working fine until I got a BSOD (first one ever in my current Vista install), saying something about my video drivers. Then, when it rebooted, it said something else about the video drivers failing but it'd all been fixed.

I'm thinking about re-installing video drivers but I'm afraid it'll do more bad than good, since all of my other games work (including Steam games using the Source engine). I guess I could try and delete all of my Steam games and uninstall Steam itself completely. It's just that I then have the hassle of backing up all of my saves and putting all of my custom maps (for Portal, for example) back in the correct places.

I'd go and reinstall graphics drivers, it's no hassle at all, and you can easily switch between driver sets. Go get the newest WHQLs :)
