TF2 Multicore

In an empty server got really bad juddery frame lag. Havent had a chance to try it in a proper full server yet though. The ability to change on the fly is cool. Is this the same as the console command? If so, what is it? saves me going in and out of menus to test it.

Skeeter, some servers get that problem... -as if you're skipping forward all the time..

that server needs resetting basically

Great, multicore has made no difference for me whatsoever. :o

What happened to TF2 though? I remember not long after it first come out I could max it at 60FPS constantly but now I dip into the 40's during firefights and I even have a 4870 1Gb instead of my 8800GT now.

It appeared that performance dipped in the last few months coinciding with the last raft of updates from valve. Myself and my pal Mortster were playing a lot on the Hampshire Heavies servers at this point and it was a real PITA when the big fire fights would happen as FPS would dip right down to 20 in some instances.

Going back further than the last few months these problems didn't occur and I could run 60fps all day long with VSYNC enabled.

There were some console commands that enabled some multicore features before the update... however they were quite buggy

Code:
Host_thread_mode "1"
r_threaded_particles "1"
r_threaded_renderables "1"
r_threaded_client_shadow_manager "1"
r_queued_decals "1"
r_queued_post_processing "1"
r_queued_ropes "1"
snd_mix_async "1"
mat_queue_mode "2"
cl_threaded_client_leaf_system "1"
cl_interp_threadmodeticks "1"
cl_threaded_bone_setup "1"

Haven't tried playing after the latest update so hoping to see a big improvement.

WhiteKnight

Doesn't seem to work for me, also tried the consiole command but it jsut odesn't seem to use the 2nd core at all... :(

Good heavens, increase your FOV from 75 to 90 already! All those settings and that PC, and you haven't even got 'Reflect All' selected for water settings either. Nor Vsync.

Multi core crashes my TF2 games, starts to stutter and then hangs with a vid driver error .

Swithched it off the other night, and back to a smooth running game.

Same as me, tried it the night of the update then went into a full server juddered twice then BING! CTD

from what i've read on the steam forums, if you get the stutter problems..

download newest nvidia/ati drivers
remove current set
reboot
install new drivers
