TF2 Sniper Update

I found this pretty amazing "fake idling" program last night written by a guy called "Drunken Fool" who apparently is responsible for something called SourceOP, which I'm told is used by a lot of TF2 servers.

Basically what it does is simulate you being idle on a server. It doesn't magically unlock stuff faster, it just means you don't have to be running TF2 and eating up all your system resources (e.g. at work :p) to still get unlocks.

I was a bit sceptical at first because I figured it would just steal my Steam account details, but it does look legit and I confirmed with a friend that he could see me sitting on a fake server.

I ran it overnight last night and got Cloak & Dagger as well as Force-of-Nature and Sandman (which I already had from a previous grinding session)

Except you don't even earn the unlocks anymore via achievements, unless you count the random chance of getting them regardless of whether you're standing around doing nothing or actually playing as "earning".

They're meant to be a reward for playing the game, not a reward for finding new and creative ways to cheat the system.

Yes, this new system is far from perfect. I don't like the randomness of it at all, but I'm not that bothered about it that I'm gonna abuse it just to get the new weapons.

So don't use it then.

Those of us who aren't prepared to play for a possibly infinite amount of time before we magically unlock a random item completely unrelated to the class we're currently playing can carry on sitting on idle servers/use this prog.
 
Well playing 7hrs+ Each day since patch day and all i have is the pee jar and spy pistol from the new unlocks :(
So now ive lost my will to "find" the new weapons.
System is flawed, running that program and sending a big middle finger to valve for creating this nonscence.
 
should be limited to one duplicate per person, and a guaranteed find every 1 hour, and maybe every 10 hours for a hat
 
Having quit wow again I decided to finally buy this last night and oh my what have I been missing!

I see what people mean about the random unlocks though. I played Sniper for over an hour and got nothing then played the Minigun fella for 5 mins and unlocked the Minigun with the slow effect? Kinda lame, hope it gets fixed soon.

You are pretty lucky then having played for only an hour and 5 mins and getting an unlock.
 
If the reason behind this (new unlock system)is that many people didnt manage enough achievements to get unlocks, why didn't they keep the achievements=unlocks and add in the free random drops as well. Then if you wanted them you could get them quickly, or if you wern't bothered you could just wait for them to appear.

This luck based system isn't very good if you're not lucky.
 
Indeed, I must say I would prefer achievements = unlocks.

Means you actually have to work at something and play the game to get get rewarded.

Can't say I'll be using these 'Idle' servers either.

I got the new spy watch fairly quickly, since then I've got the axetinguisher again and that's it :/

The duplicates system is ridiculous, apparently its so that later on you can trade duplicates with other people but if that's not been implemented yet then the duplicate thing is just wasting time :/

Some people unlocked every new item in like 2 days as well :(
