TF2 - Stop 3rd party sound downloads?!

Is this possible? Cant seem to find an option in the menu. Why cant I join most servers without downloading loads of custom wav files, etc. Is there a way to block all this nonsense so I can play with the original sound files?

I remember this annoyance with CS:S but never really looked into how to do it before.

"cl_downloadfilter none" works in CSS and TF2. Use it all the time

Although if you find you are missing a map you may need to revert the filter so that you can download it

Lol that was quick! I assume you type this at the console when the game starts? Is this permanent or do you do it each time?

I type it before I join a game and it gets saved into a config file somewhere so no need to type it ever again
