Yeah yeah I know.. it's general chat, so zero sympathy...

Drive in London in a hire car. See a C.. think, maybe I should look at that.
Look it up, realize I need to pay a fee.
Register account, put car in.

Try to look up charges... nothing. Lookup car. Nothing. System is just erroring out.

Contact TFL and tell them I can't look up my car and the system keeps erroring out.

TFL tells me, we can't talk to you, as you aren't the registered owner.

Today: Europcar tells me they paid the 90 penalty, and could I also pay a 50 admin charge as well lol.

Brilliant. So I tried to do the right thing, tried to pay, and end up being screwed to the tune of 7X+ the cost.

Now, I actually suspect that I will get ANOTHER charge from this as I drove through a tunnel with a C on the way to the airport by mistake, the next day. /facepalm.

Tell them to stick their "admin charge" up their hole. Probably tell them to do the same with the fine as you tried and it didn't work.

The trick is to sign up to get alerts from TFL when the system sees you. Often it doesn't, because a lot of the cameras don't work, especially outside of the center where people vandalize them constantly (apparently around 50% at a time are dead). No alert, don't pay. Or what some do and just remove/obscure their plates.

But yea, **** London. Whole place is a scam.

Was a cool trip, just a shame that even trying to do the right thing, I still got screwed over. (And yes, the second one came in, so it's gonna be about 400 dollars, but I am appealing.).

Seems appropriate. Still not as good as when I crashed the truck and trailer after a mule deer decided to run in front of us in Montana. (There is a reason half the pickup trucks have guards/deer catchers there) Some locals came over and gave us coffee, and the mug read 'Welcome to the **** Show' :D lol.

Wait you live in the USA?

Can't you just ignore it, I mean, what are they gonna do?

I hadn't been back in 13 year, but my parents are mid eighties now, so I plan to be coming yearly-ish. I will still need hire car's so I need to pay the hire car company as they auto-paid the fine as they are the reg holders.

You got a wife, get her to hire the car next time?

Gold

EDIT: My sister lives in a village near Dartmouth, and the roads are kinda insane out that way. There is no way she would want to drive 30 mins+ through single lane with passing places.

I assume you have phone records proving you tried to contact TFL?

Probably won't go anywhere, but send them invoices to cover the full amount including the admin fee.

The more annoying and time consuming you can be the better

If nothing else, at least make the thieving ******* earn their money!
