Hi there, as title really...

Generally alround chuffed with Vista x64, except the bloomin start menu, its so slow!

Started off ok, but got loads of stuff installed now and there is a 2-3 second wait between clicking a folder and it opening to reveal the contents in it.

Any ideas for speeding it up.

I haven't actually catergorized everything yet....will that make it a lot faster I know it did on XP?

TIA :)

Unless you're an eye-candy person I would suggest binning the Aero interface and going to Classic. Also set Vista for "Best Performance" in System Properties. Then dive into the Start Menu (right-click & Explore/Explore All Users) and heavily customize the folders trimming off all the junk. Put all anto-virus. anti-malware etc in a folder called "Cleaning" for example. All graphics apps in "Graphics" etc etc.

I did the above on my gfs new laptop which has Vista Home Premium and the speedup is amazing, it just hops to it :)

After XP and the hack to get rid or at least lower the delays in the Start Menu you'd have thought MS would have learnt.

Right click on the start button (Orb) - Properties - Customize - Scroll down and untick 'Highlight newly installed programs'

This will speed things up without a shadow of a doubt :D

Thanks to all of you for your tips

Got it sorted, after putting stuff in proper folders and trimming a few bits hear and there its all good, thanks :)

Why bother messing around with ordering things in the start menu when you can use the search box to find programs?
