That time of the year again: When dumb US networks cancel good shows and renew others

The ones I really care about (suits + arrow) are renewed so I'm happy. Shame about The Newsroom only having one more series as I really enjoyed it. I heard that community will be cancelled and while I used to really enjoy it, it probably should have ended a while ago.

Well, this is why I don't bother with Tv series until they reach a good few seasons. So many just get cancelled early on so I see no point in getting into something if it doesn't last.

Only shows I watch from the start are ones I just HAVE to see. I love comic book material so Arrow and Agents of SHIELD I started with straight away.

Almost Human, Intelligence and Revolution are ones I had on my list to watch.

But at least Marvel and Arrow are renewed for Seasons 2/3 respectively. And The Flash is starting which runs alongside Arrow S03.
Then we have Agent Carter confirmed which could be interesting - likely to run with Agents of SHIELD S02.

Also, it seems there are 4 shows (13 x 1 hour episode per show) starting on Netflix only. Iron Fist, Daredevil, and 2 others - can't recall as I just seen it when leaving this morning.

I hope Netflix and the like take up more series which could maybe help some of them continue as they wouldn't need to compete for TV slots.

Overall though...I just watch TV shows 10 years later! lol.
Smallville, Battlestar Galactica, 24, Lost, etc etc

You're missing out, quite a few of my favourite TV shows have only run for one or two seasons. Yes, it's sad to see them go and sometimes loose ends aren't tied up but there's still enjoyment to be had from it.

I suppose if you have to see everything resolved at the end then it's frustrating, but I've seen TV shows end after several seasons that have still left a lot of unknowns out there so it really doesn't seem to make a difference.

That's true like. I won't rule something out just because it doesn't run for many years, but I at least want to know it is worth watching. Many 1st seasons set things up and only begin to develop characters so sometimes if it ends after 1 season, on a big cliffhanger I'd be annoyed and it would overshadow the enjoyment I had out of it.

But yeah I'd be missing out if I dismissed everything like that. Firefly is a perfect example - I love that show yet there are not many episodes.

It's a fine line between ending too soon, and dragging on to the point where you just want it to end.

100% agree.
I think the last Revolution is this week so I hope they end it well.

The vast majority of TV shows never get an "ending". Primarily because TV is supposed to be never ending. "Endings" for television series in and of themselves are still a very rare, very recent thing and problematic thing. There's actually a few people doing academic studies/thesis'/books on TV endings because of how they are actually the opposite of what TV is as a medium in and of itself. One of my TV lectures in uni was doing his PhD on TV endings actually. It's interesting stuff.

Anyway yes, some of the best TV series ever made have no "ending". The old cliche stands true - it's about the journey, not the conclusion.

I was mainly thinking of shows that get 10 episodes, then just end. 10 Episodes isn't usually enough to have character development that will get me invested in them.
Movies for instance never have this, hence why I find TV shows much more compelling. It's also why I like mostly sci-fi and comic book movies as character development isn't as important to me enjoying those types of films.

Plenty shows are still worth watching for sure. I don't need an 'ending' as they are always open to continuation but I don't like watching something for 6 hours that leads to nowhere worthwhile - that was more my point. The journey has to be a worthwhile one

On another note - The Flash trailer was cool. Can't wait to see Season 1
