Im currently stressing over how long a game is taking to update at 100kbs. And this made me realise how different things were before we all got broadband.

Downloading an mp3 at 5kbs, Waiting for a porno jpeg to load bit by bit and playing Counter Strike with Pings between 2-300ms

God knows how we put up with it for so long! :)

Playing CS on a 15" laptop thorugh an internet gateway on my PC with a 56k Modem in it.... those were the days.

Before that I had a Win 95 machine with a 28.8k modem. I remembered the search URL for Google as it meant one less page load. www.google.co.uk/?q=!"search-text-here"

:)

My dial-up NEVER downloaded at 5kb/s. You were lucky.

Lol :)

I had a 20mb connection at my Ex girlfriends house, and even then I would twist my face at download speeds of around 250kbs. The difference is huge.

Like Fergie says, Its only gonna get faster. Will be rather impressive when you can download a full film in a matter of minutes.

Whats currently the fastest connections active ?

our connection was 28k only 4 months ago (we live quite far from civilisation to be fair) songs would download at about 3-4kb/s and I didn't even attempt online gaming.

I used to have a Diamond SupraExpress modem, Im pretty sure that was the model, I bought it especially for playing counter strike. Was pretty fast compared to some at the time :)

Yeah i had one to, use the AT string to set to 33k for best pings :D

fastest connections are either ADSL2+ (24Mb/s) or Virgin "50meg"

i can download a full film (700MB) in about 10 minutes, should i want to do something so illegal and morally reprehensible... :o
