Since I've managed to wangle every Monday and Friday off work this month I'm going to be staying up tonight to watch the awards show on Sky Movies. I have my popcorn, pizza and ale all ready, and thought I'd start an update thread so I have something to do while the musical numbers are on. :p

Does anyone know if this is being streamed live online? I don't have Sky and i don't want to miss Salma Hayek giving an award out! ;) :p

First award, actor in a supporting role, has gone to George Clooney. Very modest and civil speech, but what's with them playing music in the background the whole time?! Seems awfully odd.

Edit:

Best Visual Effects - King Kong
Animated Feature Film - Wallace and Gromit in the Curse of the Were-Rabbit
Short Film, Live Action - Six Shooter
Short Film, Animated - The Moon and the Son
Costume Design - Memoirs of a Geisha
Makeup - The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

No real runaways this year. A quick count suggests:

Brokeback Mountain - 3
Crash - 3
King Kong - 3
Memoirs of a Geisha - 2

Everything else only got one. Must be time for bed!

I'm very happy that Crash won, as it was the best film in my book, happy enough with PSH as best actor, George Clooney as best supporting actor and great for Rachael Weisz as best supporting actress, I'm not surprised by Reese Witherspoon either.

I don't agree with Ang Lee, as best Director, I thought it should have been Paul Haggis or George Clooney.

They were really trying to force the winners to limit their speech lengths this year. The music was left running so that the directors could raise it nice and quickly if they felt someone was jabbering on (and they were apparantly told this before the ceremony).

I heard that if they mentioned more than 5 names or pulled out a bit of paper they would play *** music (or i guess, raise it). Alas, i dont have Sky so didnt really see what happened. (What happened to the Oscars being on ITV or the Beeb? I swear is used to be  )

Well done to Nick Park for winning his 4th Oscar  the yanks must love a bit of Wallace & Grommit as do I :) well deserved.

Nice to see Peter Sallis was there as well, bet he didnt think he'd be at the oscars when he was 85!

I'm just watching a recording from the other night. Can anyone confirm that Deirdre Barlow (Anne Kirkbride) was in the audience at the Oscars. I'm sure she appears twice just before Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves present an award.

Is she married to someone big in movies? It was definitely her.
