A good example of developers unnecessarily using over the top bump mapping just because they can. Why the hell would the toilet be that texture? looks terrible to me would be better reasonably smooth with perhaps cracks, not bumps! sometimes i think developers just throw the latest "craze" of technologies into games just because they can and they dont really think if they are appropriate. Anyone else notice this?

Nuclear fireball? Did they change the Chernobyl story for the game?

The base story is the same but the sarcophagus covering the corrupted reactor core has collapsed and the resulting radiation caused all sorts of anomolies and artifacts.

Its ok, Tomander had me confused.. i thought they made Stalker have an actual nuclear explosion, which i know never happened at Chernobyl.

It nearly did I believe, although my knowledge of this is somewhat sketchy. I was under the impression they managed to remove the water from beneath the unit before the lump of molten bad stuff got to it, otherwise it would have gone boom? I really must refresh myself on this subject...

Divers went in to a certain death to open the floodgates beneath the reactor (The water was used for cooling), had the nuclear material touched the water this would have caused a thermonuclear reaction throwing radioactive material hundreds of miles into the atmosphere.

I think.

I think it looks good, I agree there is a lot of it in the game, but it gives it that "dirty" look and it is a very atmospheric game, I really like the graphics of STALKER... especially the flashlight, that is AWESOME!

Nope not quite.

If the molten fuel had come into contact with the water a steam explosion would have occurred. Not a nuclear one :p

running in 1680x1050, max settings x2 AA x16Af. sys spec is x2 3800 @2.5 8800GTS, 2gb mushkin

I have only played over lan with a friend as i seem to have huge problems connecting to GPgnet :( I only found the new UI a couple of days ago. Do you have a link to the UI mod you mentioned

Christ bet it runs like a dog on those settings, that's if you have fidelity and the other settings up at high. Im running an E6300 @3.5ghz, 2gb team xtreem @1:1, x1900xt, and i get single fps when i attack a base like you did in those screenies.

Bump mapping is'nt exactly new

I do see what you mean, the bump mapping effects were great but too many things had the same bumpy texture that started to look a bit monotonous after a bit. It would have been better if they used a more varied range of normal maps and pixel shading effects.

Some more S.T.A.L.K.E.R., but multiplayer, which isn't too bad really. Screenshots dont do the game justice, really compressed.
