I asked mine. She said they are basically all the same assuming they meet standards, so basically I buy whatever happens to be on special offer at the supermarket.

The only caviat is toothpaste for sensitive teeth, which does help, but she said it's pointless buying it if you don't have sensitive teeth, as in that case it offers no advantage over normal toothpaste.

I think the accepted wisdom is that you should spend your money on a good (preferably electric) toothbrush rather than fancy toothpaste.
