BROCKEN SPECTRUM.

It is a rare optical phenomenon, which occurs when a person or object is located at a higher altitude in the mountains and its shadow is projected on a cloud located at a lower height.

The "spectrum" appears when the sun shines from behind the mountaineer who is looking down from a ridge or peak into the mist or mist. The light casts the climber's shadow forward through the mist, often in an odd triangular shape due to perspective. The apparent magnification of the size of the shadow is an optical illusion that appears when the observer considers that his shadow in the relatively nearby clouds is at the same distance as the distant earth objects that are seen through holes in the clouds, or when there are no reference points by which to judge its size. The shadow also falls on water droplets of varying distances from the eye, confusing depth perception. The ghost may appear to move (sometimes quite suddenly) due to movement of the cloud cover and variations in density within the cloud.
