My "tactic" if you call it then tends to revolve around the following:
-Bet on something I believe I am knowledgeable about (Football)
-Signup to lots of bookies using the free bet offers
-Use an aggregator like
www.oddschecker.com to find the best odds (be warned some bookies on there can be less user-friendly than others, e.g. awkward to make withdrawals, I would stick to household names personally)
-Look at odds available to see if anything seems overpriced (after betting for a while, you start to be able to predict what odds you expect to be offered for a given fixtures)
-I tend to place a bit of weight on team selection i.e. if key players are missing through injury/suspension, for cup games I often check lineups say 30mins before kickoff and place a bet then (Twitter can be useful here - just search for the account of the two teams)
-Bet only using free deposits/withdrawals (typically debit card)
-Keep an eye out for promotions e.g. Bet365 sometimes do a deal on big games where they will give you a risk free in play bet to the same value as you put on before kickoff up to £50, I normally just double up whatever my original bet was. Victor Chandler used to do a thing on 5-folds where if one result failed you got a free bet refund up to £25.
-In terms of the sort of bets I go for it is mostly singles usually on 1x2 market but also I do Draw No Bet quite a bit for games where I fancy the underdog especially away from home. Over/Under 2.5 goals is another one I sometimes look at, basically if there is a game where I think there will be a lot of goals I check the odds and back it at 1.91 or better (in other words if the odds aren't particularly good I will walk away even if I think 3+ goals is likely).
-Sometimes I greenup/cashout but not religiously, tends to be more on foreign games for some reason!
So those are the sort of tactics I use, but probably worth me also posting about things that usually lose me money as well:
-Getting overexcited and hunting down random overseas fixtures (e.g. in South/North America because they play much later), putting bets on based on very little knowledge just 'studying the form' which goes against my principles.
-I probably back away teams too much
-Gambling like many other addictions can mean you need progressively bigger winnings to get the same highs, I built up a tolerance to winning say £30 quid here and there, so nowadays I normally bet hundreds of pounds at a time (unless the odds are high). This means that I do see big swings in my float (potentially winning or losing a month's salary in one day).
-Goalscorer bets usually end up losing me money. Some people do well out of them but I think my ability to pick a winner over 90mins is more reliable.
I'd say the biggest advice I can give to anyone doing football betting is playing the field using an aggregator as I mentioned above. This is because that isn't a tactic that relies on judgement, luck etc, it is just maximising your potential winnings on a given bet for a given stake (probably at least a 10% boost to winnings on average versus sticking with a single bookie).
