I have realised today that I do something really stupid. Well, not stupid, but potentially ridiculous and certainly laughable. Ready? I don't know the alphabet. Well, that's not strictly true. I do know it, but in order to work out the order of letters, I have to (it's miserable even typing it) cite the alphabet song in my head.

Yup.

I need to sort something out into alphabetical order, but what comes first, I or H? I honestly cannot process this without thinking "AY-BEE-SEA-DEE etc". Fortuantly I'm like a rap ninja and can do this within split seconds, but it does beg belief that I haven't learned the order of 26 letters relative to each other yet.

I have also mastered the skill of starting from seperate lyrical line in the song. R and S? Pah screw A, I can start from Q, mortals!

Three things really:

1) On a scale of one to miserable, how miserable is this?
2) I refuse to believe I'm alone, any other alphaderp nooblets out there?
3) What silly things do you do?

Oh, I still do this.

I refuse to memorise stuff when I can work it out instead, it leaves more room in my head for important stuff, like <insert impressive stuff here later>

It's just the way you have memorized it. If you only sang the song backwards then that's the way you would remember it, don't worry about it.

I have to run through the entire alphabet sometimes in my head, or sections of it. Most letters i know in relation to one another, but sometimes I get small clumps of letters mixed up eg; does RS come after PQ? (Actually had to run through the entire thing to think if PQ did actually come after :o )

Don't know any aphabet songs though, truly you are a poet. In other news, I'm terrible at my times tables as well. I can do 2x, 5x, 3x to a limit, and 11x. Oh and 10x obvs (that would be worrying if i didn't)

Although I have memorised alphabets in 3 languages so maybe that helps :p

How can you not know the alphabet song? It's to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star! :o

I blame this all on Sesame Street. This is also probably the reason for the longest time I said 'zee' rather than 'zed'.

You have way too much free time on your hands Nitefly.

I don’t need memory aids to help me remember things. You should have grown out of such things once you got past secondary school.

We had Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon when I was a kid. Don't think SS was on cable, no clue. Never really watched it.

Oh my lost childhood. :(

Glad to know I'm not the only one. I dont always need to use the alphabet song, but there are occasions when its the only way I can remember where abouts a letter belongs in the sequence.
