The alternative brands thread

Tesco had these hazelnut choco pillow things. Imagine Krave but it was a few years before its released and marketed as a luxury indulgence cereal, rather than a kids cereal. Not as sickly sugary but nuttier and each pillow much larger. Those things are literately the best tasting cereal ive ever had. If it wasn't for the fact that they are not only more expensive but incredibly bad for you, i would eat them all the time.

Lidl sells Simply Scrumptious brand Crunchy Oat Granola, raisin & almond that is much nicer and half the price of the likes of Jordans equivalent.

Aldi sells Bramwells brown sauce which is just lovely and half the price of HP, Daddies etc.

I buy very little in the way of branded goods these days. It does help that I shop at Sainsbury's, where most products have an own brand alternative which is reasonably priced and decent quality. Not sure I'd buy own brand everywhere; it's not always good.

Really? Own brand crumpets tend to be like shoe soles! Warburtons are lovely and deep and fluffy, with a crispy outer when properly toasted and smothered in butter.

Now I want some :(

I find the Warburtons ones really heavy and doughy. And not very nice :D

I find crumpet results depend heavily on the toaster/Gill you use to heat them up. When i changed toaster, Warburtons went from perfect to crispy on the outside and damp and rubber like on the inside, while Tesco brand ones were spot on!

A well toasted crumpet seems fluffier and lighter!

Isn't a lot of the "own brand" stuff basically made in the same factories as the branded stuff?

ASDA biscuits are an example where I can't really tell the difference between them and the brands.

We tend to buy quite a bit of Kirkland Signature stuff from Costco, very good quality at a fraction of the price.

Although I do buy quite a bit of Aldi stuff (throws back to when I lived in Germany).

Honestly, as much of a commoner as you are (:p) Fentimans is actually how coke should be IMO. Its amazeballs. But then again you eat seaweed as a snack so....

On topic, I've never found any own brand product actually as good as branded stuff. Apart from beer, I always find craft or small brewery beers better than the standard mass produced stuff.

Your opinion at the best of times is questionable. At 03:29 having consumed some of your poncey craft beers while suffering man flu well it's even more questionable. Be gone with you! :p

And less of the commoner, you know fine well I'm a perfectly respectable degenerate!

You know I'm right :p
