The AMD Driver Thread

Yeah, mine moves to the monitor that has focus. So if I Alt+Tab out of a game and go to the other monitor, the overlay moves too.

Is it possible to achieve item 1 automatically? E.g. when you're at the desktop, the monitor refresh rate switches to 60Hz, when you fire up a game, it jumps up to 144Hz (or whatever your refresh rate is).
Yea just set Windows Display Properties to 60/100/120HZ depending on what is required for your display.

Most games should apply the max refresh rate automatically, but some you may have to change it once in game then it should be saved.

I managed to set up ROCm+amdgpu on Ubuntu and all I had to do was manually delete some kernel source files after the rocm-dkms installer started trying to build with a kernel version it was incompatible with which got triggered every time I tried to remove that kernel version with apt causing that to not complete as well, in a sort of installer death spiral.

edit: I should probably add that the regular driver installation was extremely smooth and worked basically out of the box. This only happened because I wanted to mess around with AMD's barely-supported GPGPU functionality.

Update: somehow that partition ate itself (all redundant superblocks corrupted, a++). It's probably not because of the driver as such (but maybe the messing around with it to get it to work) but the idea of setting that up again fills me with a sense of dread. Think I'll just stick to OpenCL on Windows for now.

So as a new 6900xt owner i have the previous driver installed, what the process with AMD drivers?
over the top install or remove them first?

ok i read uninstall first and there is a cleanup tool if weird issues are observed.

The best results for me have always been to tick of the factory reset and remove the check from the "keep user settings" box.. Nothing more nothing less... always been a homerun for me when I had a Vega 64 and an RX 5700.

Good idea with the profiles too.

Glad you like the new control panel.

The fact I can even use game specific profiles is fantastic! A few crashes here and there (of the software itself) but yeah, I definitely prefer this. Gonna try the app soon to monitor clocks etc soon, my brother's always going on about it.

I have a C49RG90 and even thought the release notes for 21.2.1 report 'Some Samsung™ CRG9 series displays may experience a black screen when waking from sleep', this isn't mentioned in the release notes for 21.2.2 but it's stil broken :(

So annoying, I'm having to reboot my PC every time it goes into sleep as the monitor doesn't come back on, it's 2021 and this is an issue :(

It should be fixed in 21.2.1 as far as I know. I no longer have my CRG90 so I can' test it locally.

Fixed Issues

Running 21.2.2, still broken. It wasn't an issue, can't remember the driver it was OK on, very so very frustrating :(
Try the previous driver (21.2.1) as that has the issue listed as fixed.

As a temporary suggestion, you should be able to use Hibernate just fine instead as I was using that when i did have the CRG90 without issue.

I actually came from 21.2.1 as it was broken there, I upgraded to 21.2.2 to hope it fixed, so I guess I'll have to try something pre: 21.2.1

I'll try the 'hibernate' trick to see if that works

Did you try a DDU between installs? If it still happens submit a Bug Report via the tool in the software as it should be fixed.

I did an uninstall (back to MS VGA driver) rather than DDU so I will also try that, you'd like to think this would be unnecessary now, why can't we just have drivers that uninstall properly and don't require third party apps.

Thanks for the pointers ;)

It is unnecessary these days for the most part with the Factory Reset option built into the driver now to be honest, but just want to make sure the issue definitely still exists and there's nothing else at fault.

Where is this factory reset button? Can't say I've ever come across it but it would good to have as an option if I ever have issues. I can't use DDU in safe mode as my monitor doesn't post afterward, so on the 2 occasions I've had to use it I've opted not to do it safe mode, which is scary given all the warnings / recommendations in that regard.

Cheers Matt. When it says you can't roll back to previous drivers, I take it if I still have the previous drivers saved in my downloads folder I could still install them, it's not going to scan and delete those too is it?
I think it deletes the C:/ AMD folder as well.
