The AMD Driver Thread

Is that the sound of goalposts moving? You tried making a point that while Nvidia do it it’s not as bad because it’s been 9 years. I pointed out that using the original release date for a GPU market life cycle is a poor metric in this scenario, because you need to use the actual EOL date.

Yes you seem to have corrected me but doesn't change the fact this whole blowup was because of AMD so of course people are gonna come up with stuff be correct or false

I couldn't care for either Nvidia or AMD I have no loyalty to either

Self inflicted AMD marketing disaster

Saving grace is they nipped it quickly so in a week from now ya'll won't even remember what happened

This is not anything self inflicted, and there is no blow up. This is nothing more than a very slow news quarter and the youtubers need to keep them clicks going, even if it means manufacturing a story out of nothing.

It’s totally normal for both Nvidia and AMD to run down driver optimisation support for older products. 4-5 years is not unheard of and even shorter in the case of OEM cards.

It is self inflicted with the wording used it's almost like they are back tracking with the response if that was the original plan why not just be more clear in the first place ? And not give the excuse

What was with maintenance mode ? suggested that future drivers would only deliver bug fixes and security updates for older architectures like RDNA 1 and RDNA 2.

And future optimizations focusing on newer RDNA 3 and RDNA 4 cards

Now responding with that those GPUs will keep getting game optimization

AMD now says it will continue to roll out new features and game-specific optimizations “based on market needs,”

The previous version did not mention game optimizations at all

With everything being said another case of self inflicted by AMD easily could have been avoided
Reminds me of the AM4 300/400 series support debacle which was then backtracked on despite them originally claiming it was a hardware limitation.

You would have thought for a corporation of their size that they would have a competent PR team to prevent these slip ups.

It does seem they have back tracked originally was maintenance mode , bugs and security updates for 5000 and 6000 series and future focus game optimizations and new features on newer cards

Then after the backlash responds with

New features, bug fixes and game optimizations will continue to be delivered as required by market needs in the maintenance mode branch,"
- AMD to Tom's Hardware

The previous version did not mention game optimizations for these architectures at all

What does maintenance mode mean ? Just maintaining for bugs and security? Or slower fixes ?

It means absolutely nothing, now that they’ve screwed this up so badly. Backpedaling whilst trying to seem competent.
Saddened that they’ve been caught out, but they really need to be better than this. Nvidia might as well just increase their prices another level, because they will be laughing at this one.
Needless, but all too common.

Totally nonsense move as RDNA2 products are widely sold and the last RDNA2 graphics cards are not that old. The RX6750GRE was launched at the end of 2023. RDNA3 still has awful feature support too despite touting AI optimisations. I get that AMD is smaller but better and longer software support is why Nvidia and Apple have such an entrenched market.

It also puts doubt into people's minds how long RDNA4 will be supported for.

As usual Nvidia manages it's PR much better.

Yet again, AMD snatch a magnificent defeat from a reasonable position.

Nvidia don't really have to make that much effort with the way AMD's GPU department is run. And they haven't, they're doing what Intel did for years. It's just I can't see a Ryzen-like GPU release happening, which is depressing.

My biggest concern is how long until they drop the RDNA3/4? Will you only ever get a 3-5 years before they axe it? My 6900XT still has a lot of life in it and yet I am kind of being forced to upgrade to a 5070Ti

in addition,

as required by market needs
wtf does this mean in exact terms?
another marketing bs spin that means the sum of dog poo

to my poor non-english speaking english interpretation
maintenance mode = bare minimum
as required = basically never, buy the lottery ticket if this is provided

Trouble with Star Citizen.

Game crashes before launching, produces an Easy Anti-Cheat Error. This happens with Drivers 25.10.1 and 25.9.2 and only when running the game in DX11 mode, seems to work fine in Vulkan mode with 25.9.2. But, and this is a separate issue, NOT with 25.10.1, CIG, the developers of the game are aware of Vulkan not working with Driver 25.10.1 and say they are looking in to it.

Both DX11 and Vulkan the game works fine with driver 25.9.1

The Easy Anti-Cheat error.

A Reddit post has sprung up about it here.

RX 7800XT
Ryzen 5800X

I have submitted an in Radeon App Error report.

Thanks :)

This. First the announcement and then the backtrack clarification which guarantees nothing and is just word salad.

Poor form when high end 6xxx series GPUs were still being released in mid-2022. This is almost akin to Nvidia announcing it's support for the RTX 4090 (released October 2022) is moving to "just when we fancy it".

Edit - Said as a current owner of a release day RX9070XT and also still have a 6900XT (amongst other older AMD cards) in the household. I think for my next upgrade I will be looking very closely at alternatives to AMD be they Intel(!) or Nvidia for Windows use (thank heavens for Mesa support on Linux, FSR4 working fine on the RX6900XT).
