*** The AMD RDNA 4 Rumour Mill ***

Well, I started at the 5090 and mostly just because that's a beast (regardless of if the uplift is as good as we'd have liked, it's still the best).
But once that was out the 5080 seemed like the next best thing. Sure a little disappointing it wasn't closer to the 5090 and was still behind the 4090 but other than that, except for a few outliers, nothing was as good. It was half the price of the 5090 too, so while still expensive it was better value. When it comes to the 5070Ti and 9070 XT I appreciate it's pretty close but I feel Nvidia and Nvidia technologies are just slightly better supported. I don't use upscaling much if at all currently but if I did, while FSR4 seems to have closed the gap in quality the fact people have to use Optiscaler to get FSR support in games that use DLSS shows that currently there's better DLSS support. RT also seems to be better especially with things that use RTX implementation. Plus any apps that use GPU acceleration seem to be more compatible with Nvidia tech. In the past, from what I recall, I've had less issues with my Nvidia cards than my AMD ones, so that also leads me to favour Nvidia a bit.

the fact you've mentioned FSR4 I take it you have a 9070 or 9070 XT? Any buyer's remorse?

This, this mindset is why Nvidia fleece you.

I don't actually remember what I paid for it, but I know I didn't get it at its cheapest.
But what was the cheapest price of a 7900XT? £600? Still seems like a silly price.

If think its went from $900 to $750 after the backlash, could have been $800, i don't remember.

I mean was the 7900XT (or 7900XTX) ever not a silly price?

So yeah, I paid a silly price for it.

EDIT: Got me thinking, what was the last GPU I didn't pay a silly price for?

I’ve had a mix of both over the years and the 9070 XT exceeded my expectations on performance and features. I don’t even have too much complaints I paid £629.
Same here, last one was a 1070 so quite a while ago, been through RDNA 2 and 3 since then but really pleased with the current purchase.

Are there any details about other cards coming in the 9000 range? Am looking at an AMD card for a machine running something like Bazzite, but the 9070 is probably overkill as have a 4090 for main PC.

When it's there it's great either from the override or modding it in it's great the best thing I can say is you don't really notice it

yeah 9060 announcement expected soon™

Tempted to get a 9070XT to replace my 3060 but interested to hear what is rumoured on the horizon and potential timeframes. 9070XTX? Some sort of 9090?

Or for 3440x1440 might I be better off looking at a 7900XTX.

I think I'm ruling out Nvidia for my next card. Silly behaviours all round there.

There might be a bigger vram version but that’s it. The chip is fully unlocked so no room for extra ROPs etc.

Thanks - so it's probably a straight toss between 9070XT and 7900XTX then.

I'm not trying to be lazy with my research, rather there's a lot of information to absorb about GPU new developments since I was last in the loop, but intrigued as to how much high framerates are attributable to "tricks" that degrade overall fidelity, i.e. any situation where you can clearly see the GPU has made a shortcut in rendering. I might be mistaken but it seems that perhaps the 7900XTX has more overall grunt whereas the 9070XT has more modern approaches to how frames should be rendered. 3440x1440 is an awkward resolution to interpret from 1440p and 2160p benchmarks. So question is, which card would be best in a real-life scenario? I just want my games to play smoothly, rather than blasting out 360FPS, and at the best discernible quality. I think this is a 144hz monitor, which would be nice to achieve where I can but I'd be happy with 60FPS and never having an stutter, lag, tearing or artefacts.

So far as I'm aware, the raw performance of the 9070 XT is reported accurately, it was nvidia that released slides with unequal tech used.

The 7900 XTX is faster in raster, but due to the improvements in RDNA4 it is slower in ray tracing. An extra 8GB isn't to be sniffed at though and based on recent history cards that are slower in ray tracing but with greater VRAM, often end up faster over time when the VRAM needed gets higher.

FSR4 is a nice bonus for the 9070 series too, though I'm not sure if the XTX will get support for that.

And you are getting all the ROPs..... :D

@Seearbe i would just get thee 9070 XT, 16GB is plenty for that res and its a better GPU in many more ways than its not.
