The Apprentice 2008

TRICKYJ's WEEKLY APPRENTICE ROUNDUP

Evictee: RAEF-
Shame, although I believe he was to blame for the direction and ultimate downfall of the film, he was very unfortunate to be fired when people such as michael and helene remain. He will be successful in life however so wish him well. The posh git :p
Don't like him, delighted he's gone. Seems to have got by with people thinking 'he's posh, but he's alright'. He's not blatantly 2 faced, but he is very sly and I think he's always got a angle in everything he says. It was almost comical how he got booted, didn't even realise when asked what he thought about the other video he was about to get a pasting because his attempt was so poor (and failed on a few important levels that the other video succeeded on). And after declaring in the cafe that they wouldn't cheapen themselves to throwing accusations, he could not have turned on Michael any quicker when back in the boardroom. Lucky to have won so often because he clearly isn't up to it most of the time.

Lucinda: Fast becoming my favourite- I would very much like to see her win. Hoping she can keep her often emotive side calm enough to let her true qualities shine through. Nice to see a fairly genuine person in the contending for winning.
Quite like her, has the advantage of actually being a nice person.

Claire: I think SAS has a soft spot for her and likes her sales prowess. I think he is thinking that they're all a bunch of plonkers, but as he has to hire one of them, Claire might make him some money :p Either that or he is secretly slipping her one.
Hated her at first, she probably should win though as she does often seem to have half a clue.

Alex: Cleverly doing just enough to get by without making any actual decisions that could risk him being blamed for something. Quick to pounce and capitalise upon anyone elses mistakes with the thought that it will take the heat off of him. A hand I don't think he can play much more.
Agree.

Helene: Please, your name is helen and you are not special because you pronounce your fairly common name slightly different! (:p). She is a bully and I am very suprised SAS and Co have not seen this and given her the boot.
Agree.

Lee: Seems very unsuited to this program. Don't get me wrong, I like him and he seems a lovely bloke- he just seems more like the person you will find out in the waiting area rustling through the sweety bowl and kicking around the screwed up paper as a football.
Agree.

Michael: He needs to be binned immediately. Literally, placed into a bin and defecated upon.
I'll be alone on this, but I kind of like him. Well, perhaps not like, but I don't hate him. He's a ****, but there's no fakeness in him being a ****, which is more than can be said for many contestants.

sales prowess is something this girl lacks...How the hell is she a category buyer, that is shocking!!!

I think SAS summed her up earlier this evening when he said "she will come in here armed with 500 rounds of ********" I would be very suprised if she wins..

P.S. what does louise redknapp know about business/industry...her claim to fame is her beauty and a couple of years in the band - eternal..I mean if i was sitting there I would be thinking "what the hell do you know"

Claire's managed fine with selling throughout the series and this has been commented upon in most episodes.

And I claim Louise Redknap as successful - nobody holds such a heavy wallet and still be in demand (many years after her limelight success) without having skills ;)

Now, forgive me, but when did you ever know any sales person who didn't have at least that amount of BS.....that's what they do.....don't castigate them for it....live and let live.......but use the first round to the head, always effective in my experience!!:(:)

Well, that's put the cat amongst the pigeons a bit.
Looking at the remaining six contestants I am struggling to see any real stand-out candidate for me:

Helene: Has stayed in by keeping a low profile - what does she actually offer?
Lucinda: Got a brain and capable of managing without ranting and raving, but I think she is a bit too quirky and emotional.
Michael: Probably does very well for himself in telesales, but this is a step too far for him. No amount of sucking-up, back-stabbing and BS can make up for that.
Alex: A good allround package, doesn't seem to have many weaknesses both in terms of his business skills and his ability to argue his point. Not sure if that is what SAS is looking for though, in that he doesn't have one single feature to make him stand out from the crowd.
Claire: Shaky start to the series but coming into her own a bit more of late. Could impress the main main if she plays her cards right.
Lee: Not serious enough for this role. Bags of enthusiasm but doesn't seem to offer much else.

I really don't like Helene, she's not done anything good to stand out, and whenever she's been project leader she *always* picks someone for a task which they're really not good for and just tries to let them dig their own hole.

She did it with Lucinda near the start when she put her in charge of the computer on the photo task, despite Lucinda admitting to having no idea what she was doing with computers. And then refusing to help or anything when she had problems, despite the fact that Helene went to the same training session. Helene then tried to scapegoat Lucinda in the boardroom for it, but Alan Sugar saw through it.. and they didn't loose anyway so neither ended up on the chopping board.

You could see her doing it again when she was in charge on the wedding task. She just let Michael and Sara go at it, watching them using horribly inefective methods to try selling the cakes, without doing anything about it despite almost no cakes getting sold.

Either it's intentional and she's evil, or it's not and she's just an utterly useless manager and should never be put in charge of people therefore ergo not win the job.

Lucinda: Got a brain and capable of managing without ranting and raving, but I think she is a bit too quirky and emotional.

I do like her, one of the few nice people on there. Needs to be a bit less emotional though, and possibly a bit stronger towards the other candidates who quite easily bully her or push her into doing things she doesn't want to do.

Michael: Probably does very well for himself in telesales, but this is a step too far for him. No amount of sucking-up, back-stabbing and BS can make up for that.

Ugh, why isn't he gone.

He doesn't take responsiblity for anything, when leader of the pub task he appointed the little britain guy as "head chef" and told him that he'd be taking responsiblity for everything to do with the food (i.e.. everything). And he generally won't make a decision of his own, just makes other people do it.

Claire: Shaky start to the series but coming into her own a bit more of late. Could impress the main main if she plays her cards right.

Alan Sugar definately likes her. :p Has managed to resolve a lot of her problems in the start of the series which actually shows a very good attribute, she's willing to learn and does make adapt and change quite quickly when a need is seen. There's a lot to be said for an employee who can improve themself.

Lee: Not serious enough for this role. Bags of enthusiasm but doesn't seem to offer much else.

He did quite well selling the wedding stuff, not so great in the last task though.

To be fair he did get shafted a bit with the presentation, in that he had very little time to prepare and even 20mins beforehand he still had people in his face telling him to change things.

She and her husband run or ran a footballer's magazine.

True. :)

I think i want Lucinda to win now that Raef has gone. Gobsmacked at the result.

As long as Michael and Helene go soon, then im not too fussed actually.

Nah. Take last week when she berated the other two for the choice of name/colour scheme for their box of tissues the tone of her voice reminded me of a teacher. Didn't like it. Alex or Lee and I'd be happy.

Quite agree. :)
