The art of 'moshing'

Best pits I've ever been in:
1: Chimera (slow moving but bouncy)
2. Skindred in a tiny nightclub (good vibe, you get picked up when you go down)

Most terrifying pit I've ever been in:
1. Metallica at the Colloseum in LA 10 years ago. It literally appeared out of nowhere when the first chord was struck and is to this day the biggest and fastest moving pit I have ever run away from like a little girl.

Yep... Metallica pit in Dublin circa 1998 was one that I just had to get out of. They came on stage, open with Blackened and within roughly 5 seconds the place went absolutely mental and I found myself right in the middle of an exploding pit. Wasn't prepared for that at all, so backed out as quickly as I could. Losing a shoe in the process. The first bloody song!

Im 24 and have been close to punching people for trying to 'mosh' near me. I don't go to events where this would be acceptable and don't want to. These idiots should remove themselves from normal places and stay with the other idiots who think that kind of ridiculous behaviour is acceptable

Definitely. I try to start them in any club, to whatever type of music. Everyone always joins in and it's a good laugh.

But it isn't universal... some people wont get it and will just think, why is this guy pushing me? and start a fight.

If im at a Machine Head gig, I expect a few bruises if I stand... well, anywhere :D

Depends how fragile you are, really. In a decent pit, people look out for each other. If you fall, people will help you up, give you a slap on the back and get back to it.

I draw the line at these screamo kids and their 'hardcore dancing' or whatever they call it. Standing hunched over, spinning round in place swinging punches and kicks. It isn't big or clever.

Blood and bruises in anything that gets a little overexcited would seem par for the course.

Not exactly everyone's idea of a fun way to enjoy music - being pushed around and bashed into by a bunch of mentally underdeveloped knuckledraggers.

Moshing

if you mean idiots banging into people for no reason, then I'm not being funny, but if someone banged into me, they'll be on the floor

idiots!

can't people just enjoy the music?

But it is some peoples. So, by your logic everyone should be like you. Scared of a few bruises and some blood?

Pretty serious, at the youth club I use to work at we had to have the ambulance up a few times
But we had mosh pit patrol personal which helped keep the injuries relativly minor and non-life-threatening :p

no, but they should respect the fact that not everyone wants to be kicked and pushed :roll eyes:

you want to act like an idiot, be my guest, but not near me thank you :D

Yup. I've seen friends lose piercings and chip teeth from getting punched or charged, not intentionally, but just from being in the middle of dozens of people going at full pelt. One friend had his nose broken by a stage diver. I've only ever had a black eye and that was because a fat drunk fella was walking around the circle pit swinging like a windmill and he caught me standing on the sidelines.

There are rules. For me there's two types of pits. Circle and mosh. If you're swinging like a silverback trying to pick up change, you should be in the mosh pit. The circle pit rotates around the mosh pit. If someone falls in either pit, they are to be brought to their feet immediately, dusted off and sent right back to it. If there is someone intentionally flailing about punching or kicking people that are smaller and weaker than him, the bigger ones are to tell him to knock it off or he'll get his **** kicked in. Anybody that stage dives feet first is intentionally being a dick and should be slapped a few times too.

Fun times:

The only reason I can see for engaging in such behaviour is severe mental impairment (probably only worsened by partaking in such behaviour)

How can you even have a mosh pit to that, that's radio 1 fodder :/

I think this is another case of the stupids finding things to wipe themselves off the planet like neknomination.

I've just watched the video on the 1st page

My stomach is aching.....im crying with laughter

Never seen anything so stupid.....doesn't seem to be any women there wink wink

Looks like a place inmates go when they have left prison (hence the male on male action)
