The best D5/DDC pump/tube res combo?

Hi guys :)

Going to be starting my FT03 watercooled build as soon as my student loan comes in, and just speccing up the parts.

I'm going to be using my existing CPU block, 240 rad and barbs, so was just wondering: what's the best tube res top for a D5/DDC pump, and what would be the best White tubing/White fluid to use? Going to be cooling my CPU, and since the sale of my 580 fell through, that as well (already have the EK block for the 580.

I probably won't be overclocking to a high degree, I'm more interested in silence, so I hope a 240mm rad will be ok for the both of them. If I find out it isn't, I'll probably put a 120mm rad in the top as well, so what's the best performing 120mm rad?

Sorry for the list of questions guys, I may be able to watercool with my eyes shut but I don't know an awful lot about different parts :D

The OcUK Tech labs Arctic Tundra has white fluid and clear tubes and it looks ace.

Noise wise if you dampen down the DDC or the D5 then the only noise you will get will be from the flow of the fluid and the buzz of the pump, I know you can reduce the speed of the d5 and thus lower the flow but I doubt there is much in it as to which is quieter. We only really use the d5's here so I can't speak for the DDC

If your loop is going to be big or have to travel a long way UP then the D5 would be the option but if it's a tight loop then there is little difference between the two they both take up the same sort of space.

Sorry I can't be more help.

Swiftech mcp35x (which is a ddc) with swiftech res is the best combo imho. Had one, sold it and now buying another 2 and replacing my d5's.

To be honest though any modern pump's are good enough for most loops.

Fancy selling me one of those D5's Daz? :D

Sweet cheers guys :)

Twst I can't afford to buy that system :p and no, as the loop in the FT03 is pretty small I won't need a D5 then.

I'll have a look at the Swiftech combo. Any news when you'll get any White tubing in?

Did so noise testing on pumps some time ago linky to full thread
Ranked quietest (top) to loudest (bottom)
Top section are quiet imho
middle are ok (most case/gpu fans will mask the noise)
Bottom two are like being in a dentist's (unless you have a noisy gpu)

I did the testing at night when it's REALLY quiet where I like.
And this is pump noise only - vibration is usually the problem
If you live on a busy road / always have the stereo on / where head phones / have more that 6 fans in your pc
you'll not hear any pump I've listed

Did some more testing tonight with some other aftermarket tops
NOTE the massive noise drop of the D5 with the ek x-top.
and yes setting 5 is quieter that 4 (but that could be my old ears not hearing higher frequencey noise as well)
and the increased flowrates but reduced noise of the xspc tops over the older alphacool one.

Full review will be posted up elsewhere but wanted you guys to get first look at the provisional results.
A few may swap a place on second run through with different loop arrangement.

D5 setting 1 (EK X-top rev2) – 0.69GPM
D5 setting 2 (EK X-top rev2) - 1.00GPM
D5 setting 1 – 0.62 GPM
D5 setting 3 (EK X-top rev2) - 1.35GPM
D5 setting 2 – 0.92 GPM
DB-1 – 1.09 GPM
-------
Ddc stock – whoosh like but quiet – 1.37 GPM
D5 setting 5 (EK X-top rev2) - 1.99GPM
D5 setting 3 – 1.26GPM
Ddc xspc top - 1.87GPM
Ddc xspc res top - 1.86GPM
D5 setting 4 (EK X-top rev2) - 1.72GPM
DDC pro (Alphacool res top) – 1.53GPM
-------
D5 setting 4 – 1.63GPM
D5 setting 5 – 1.89GPM
