The best free firewall (imo)... Comodo Firewall!

Lots of questions lately asking which is the best free firewall and I can say beyond shadow of a doubt that in my humble opinion Comodo Firewall is hand away the best of it's ilk. It is 100% free, as fully featured as any paid firewall, and consumes hardly any resources whatsoever in comparison to the nightmare that can be ZA.

Setting program access and opening ports for torrents etc is easy and intuitive, and the program really does offer pin-point control over exactly what programs have access to and from your precious PC.

Use it and abuse it, it won't skip a beat. :)

It's nice. And their antivirus is excellent too. Only thing i didnt like about the firewall, and why i'm not using it, is because it really slowed down my system startup; took an ages to load up with Windows. I'm back using XP's own firewall now.
 
I want to be alerted when a program is accessing the internet and on what port either incoming or outgoing? Like ashampoo's alert settings.

What setting level should i set?
 
I much prefure kaspersky antihacker then Comodo firewall. Comodo is very annoying constantly asking if explorer and svhost can do basic things no matter how many times I set allow always. Another annoyance is no matter if I set allow application always, it doesnt mean it will allow the ports , so I have to manually add them in another section. Took an age to get some games working even on lan due to having to work out the port numbers. a few other parts needed disabling too in order to not slow the system right down and moan everytime a programe is run. Its not a bad firewall, but theirs nothing intuitive about it.

Kaspersky just works, if I say allow an app, then it will allow everything to do with that app(if i set allow all) and only ask again if something with that app changed. Half-life 2 is annoying in this respect as every source game seems to call hl2.exe and kaspersky has to ask me everytime if this exe is ok ;).
 
I tried this too but had to take it out because whenever Kaspersky AV wanted to update it said I wasnt connected to the internet, and thats even having kaspersky allowed in the program access :rolleyes:

Gone back to Windows firewall now.

You have not set the comodo firewall to allow all if all you have done is click the popup window.
Also you dont have to bother with all that port work either.
Open comodo security Open trusted tasks choose the app/game, tick Skip parent, tick Allow invisible connection attempts, tick Skip advanced security checks. Done no blocking or popups.
I only do that for games & Utorrent,I will not risk a virus if it ever gotton to my pc hijacking explorer and svhost because of a few popups when you first install while it learns the Parents[the program that started explorer can change a lot so you will get more warning if a new app starts it]wich you can skip if you set it to ignore Parent & hope that it ain't a virus that has started it.
I have not had explorer and svhost popup for along time because i have not lately installed anything new that is trying to access them,It has learnt.
Out of the Box Comodo is not as easy as others, but learning is worth it.

Sounds interesting.

At the moment I just use Windows SP2 firewall, And I dont get any problems. Which is why I have no need for a 3rd Party solution. But it's nice to know it's out there.

Mcaffee Corp + SP2 Firewall = Rock solid for me :) Not had a problem since Sasser luckily
 
Yeah i got a load of popups at first i just kept clicking allow, and dont ask again or whatever its called, never had any for a while now, cracking firewall. :)

Id been using Za for years, terrible that was, PC restarting out of the blue when the True Vector Engine decided to go **** up, restarting when trying to watch some online vids, web pages messed up etc.... none of that with Comodo, finally free of that heap Za. :D

Hmm just out of interest... if a torrent suddenly stops downloading and then begins to upload only despite the fact it's only 94% finished... what does that mean?

Seeds: 0(62) Peers: 16 (521).

Means there is actually 62 seeds but your not connected to them for some reason. Someone with more knowledge on torrents should be able to offer a answer why your not connected to those seeds.

[To fix this open comodo and Click Security Tab at the top.
Next Press Advanced On The Left. Then click configure in the miscalaneuous box and where it says alert level frequency put the bar on very low which is 1 popup per app just like most of you want. It comes up twice or more because its asking incoming and outgoing or act as a server alerts. Once its set to very low it will be 1 popup as you all want and all you do is press the remember check box.]

Hmm well it was downloading fine and dandy, firewall is set up perfectly and then all of a sudden vamoosh... it's only uploading the torrent now... the download proicess is still stuck at 94%. :confused:

I would like to have one popup for incoming and one popup for outgoing. On low it keeps giving loadsa popups about loads of different thinks.

It keeps coming up with popups with local address' aswell like 192.168.1.1

How do i get rid of these?

EDIT:

I also get problems with my wireless network connection to the router aswell because of the firewall.
