The best ISP is?

Since I paid £18 for the entire year with O2, I'll 'struggle' with their 12Mbits (All I can get), and whilst I'm waiting the extra few mins, I'll think how to spend the £400+ I've saved for the year :D

I think from the non-virgin providers, you really can't beat O2/Be (Same infrastructure) as long as your exchange has O2/Be LLU'd..

Other then that, Virgin, or Zen perhaps, but get your money out!

You have a point...but when I pay like £45 a month for the 50Mb service (and I only have the broadband as I have no use for the phone and TV), I know I am definitely getting the best internet connection that money can certainly buy and you get businesses that pay like double for an ADSL connection with a 5:1 contention ratio or even 3x the amount I pay for a 1:1...:D but yeah if I didnt have Virgin, then being an O2 mobile customer I would naturally go for them...

I can only get ipstream where i am :o(. Was with Enta who where fine for the price you pay but sometimes the slow downs where a bit of a pain. I have moved to AAISP who so far have been great. They are fine aslong as you do not need to use you connection during 9am-6pm.

How come nobody mentioned BT according 2 the guy from there call center they told me they were voted the best ISP by which magazine 2009

Hi,

I used to have BT but the service never got started due to problems with the connection from my home to the exchange. The service was not good having to speak to someone in India.
Currently I am with Nildram but I am looking to change as I am having a problem getting on to some www. sites, one in particular is a car club site.
Having asked and got Nildram to check out my problem they say the site hosting the car club is blocking access! Not sure whether this is correct as I only have their word on this and no other means of getting the connection checked.
Nildram are a .net ISP would this cause access problems as apposed to a .com or .co.uk ISP?

Regards
Mike

Hi,

Just wanted your views on this, I have been with Nildram for the past 4 years, but recently there have been disconnect issues, billing issues and
this is most likely being brought on by the fact they are/have sold out to Tiscali and now TalkTalk.

I most certainly do not want to be on Tiscali or TalkTalk (unless someone could convince me they are good, but I doubt it).

I need a very reliable ISP at peak times for gaming etc, and I mainly download (quite a lot) offpeak.

Who are you folks on here with?

Thanks in advance! :p

So who you going with?

have you looked here - http://www.thinkbroadband.com/

if you dont download much and loyalty is more important than service.... then its really a no brainer.

virgin media will make sure you dont ruin anybody elses downloading experience by throttling your connection everyday.....i know they say its only the top 5% that get throttled but guess what ? everyones a winner with virgin media because everyone is in their top 5%.

yes even your neighbour who doesnt have a virgin media connection may get billed for services they are not providing him.... even if you've left them a year ago they may still bill you......they wont forget you.

so if loyalty is more important than service then deffo go for virgin media

Either BT or Be*. I hear Be* are good, but I'm on BT and that's been great (with the exception of the home hub... eww).
Stay away from TalkTalk/AOL, worst ISP ever... I'm on what's meant to be the same speed on BT that I had on TalkTalk... BT I get about 650kb/s, TalkTalk I used to get about 30kb/s
And virgin - two mates have it, they say it's fast but drops out randomly?

my vote for virgin
even with the throttling - its fantastic - i dont mind the throttling as i completely understand why they do it - if u manage your time correctly then u will not have a problem

I have Virgin Media's 10mbps service at the moment, and I must say.. all the months I've had it.. Its always top class, and I almost get 10mbps even at peak hours when I'm downloading something huge.
Also latency in games is quite good as well, 60ms most of the time in CSS in UK servers.

VirginMedia 20MB Service, 3 laptops and a desktop connected too it and not a single problem!

If I wasn't with Virgin i'd use Be Unlimited :)

The original poster can't get Virgin

So there's little use us Virgin users who are happy recommending it.

I was on Freedom2Surf at my parents house until jan, didnt have a problem with them at all! However my parents wanted to cut their bills, which is abosulty fine and decided to go for Sky, seeing as we have Sky tv already.

Im the only internet user in the house and since ive been on sky I cannot stand it. Their constant throttling is a nightmare. Im on the 8mb connection packaged, which apparently is run by BT but you pay sky anyway. Im 8mb in the day, once the clock hits 6pm im down to 2mb or 512k!!! its disgusting.

However at my Uni house in leciester we can get virgin 20mb cable :D 6 of us in our house, we are all heavy net users and it works like a dream! Constant awesome dl speeds, none or hardly any throttling!

So I would look at Be!
