Personally I disagree with the outcome and my vote would go towards Daniel Craig. For me the slapstick comedy and sexual innuendos make the older bond films a bit corny. Dont get me wrong i still enjoy the old ones, but the new bonds take it up a level for me and they feel more like serious spy films.

Could we add a poll? im interested to see peoples votes..

Sean Connery by a mile.

I don't like the newer Bond movies, they take themselves too seriously in my opinion and I find them a bit bland. I much prefer the older movies, and Connery was the pinnacle of them for me.

Mind you, I do think Brosnan did a fantastic job with Goldeneye.

I totally get why people dont like the new bonds, for me the seriousness is why i like them more.

Brosnan i think is very under rated, Goldeneye was a good film ill give you that.

Yeah, Craig is a fantastic actor and the movies are undoubtedly well made. I'm just not a big fan of serious spy thrillers, it was the crazy over the top stuff that kept me interested in the older stuff.

Old people always vote for Sean Connery.
Many who think they've read the books look to Lazenby.
Those who've actually read the books tend to prefer Timothy Dalton, with Daniel Craig as a second option.
Those who love 'Bond Films' tend to like Roger Moore.
Those who are fairly young look to Pierce Brosnan.

I can see both sides of the coin. I guess that's what happens with a franchise that spans many decades.

It's pretty obvious if you watch every film that anything pre-Brosnan era does have a slight touch of comedy/wit to it. Whereas since that era, the bond films are much more focused on action/stunts. I do like that they try and keep one or two witty lines in the modern films, just to keep the character similar.

Daltons short lived run as Bond is really underrated imo, would love to have gotten more with him in the role.

My favourite is Connery, followed by Dalton then Craig...can take or leave the rest dependent on my mood.

i have read the books, got them all on my shelf next to me and Lazenby was pretty close to the character, shame he didn't do more.
Early Roger Moore, before he got way too old, was great. Spy who loved me is still one of the best.
I find Craig's version to be too psycho but casino royale was a breath of fresh air after all the invisible car daftness. He's just a better version of Dalton's take on the character.

Cant really put them in any order. Moores spy who loved me was up there with Goldfinger but his later pensioner films were a little hard to take.

Dalton for me. Had a sense of brooding intensity that none of the others had imo.

This. He had a ruthless streak running through him. The moore style quips he made when a bad guy died just didn't suit him. I don't think Mi5/Mi6 agents make jokes in real life when they kill someone either, anymore than say a police armed squad sniper in a kidnapping/hostage/terrorist situation.

Graig is a close second. He's got BALLS of steel, especially when Le Chiffre is talking to him! :p ;)

You should read the Le Carre books, think you'd like them. Same for a lot here actually. If you don't like that fact that Bond is a little hammy then his books will ground you forever.

I still love Bond for it's fanciful and extravagant take on the genre, but there really is only one way of seeing espionage once you've read Le Carre.
